done for the first time in awhile. was listening to an old episode of 2p2pokercast and Greg Raymer was on imploring people to take part in the daily action plan. To his credit I realized that I haven't been diligent in keeping up with it. And I can't be frustrated if I'm not participating.

I'll do my best to encourage others to participate as well.

thanks PPA

With the demise of federal poker legislation in 2012, the fight is now largely at the states. This gives us new opportunities, but many challenges. We'll ALL have to be on board, pushing with all we have.

While this plan is not part of PPA, I do need to mention that PPA is not a group to whom we players outsourced this effort. Anyone who thinks they don't have to work because PPA owes them that is flat-out wrong. In fact, having an organized effort means we all have to work harder, not less.

It's all about numbers and, quite frankly, we need more participants. If we don't show our elected representatives that there is a great deal of support for our position, it will be very hard to win them to our side. The fight itself rests here -- with the poker community -- and we all need to do our part if we want to win.

Still following the PPA after the path they have led us down? Apparently some good poker players are suckers at the game of life.

Online poker will be small player pools which are raked and taxed to the hilt. That is it. Game over. Thanks for playing. There are literally millions of better ways to waste time than to continue with the pipe dream of real online poker.

But, you know, even though this is a medium of written exchanges, I can feel the zombies starring through my words. You will not be convinced. Oh well.

I am convinced. We have to spread the word of a boycott of state lotteries and the reason for our boycott. This can only be won by trying to put a dent in their revenue with the help of people outside the PPA. The lottery does not have anywhere near the type of loyalty that something like poker has. By telling people not to play the lottery and giving them a good reason not to we are doing a public service anyway. The way they abuse their players would be a reason on its own to try to get people to stop playing this form of gambling.

I have already started posting messages on each states lottery page talking about the boycott and the reason for it. I have already gotten four responses on the Michigan webpage. One person said he would be going to Canada as a comment of support.

Why is the PPA so against something that might actually work? The strategy that the PPA has been using so far is just as much of a shot in the dark as spreading the message of a boycott would be.

You're so right better to do nothing, complain, and blame others. Facts are progress made but it's not and easy road. If the issue is important to you need to fight for it.

Thanks for thinking of ideas on this.

I'm not sure why you you think PPA is "so against" it? I don't recall anyone commenting on it at all yet.

I don't think this would result in a big reduction of sales, but it could bring negative attention. For now, though, why would be boycott them all? Some opposed Reid/Kyl because it limited their ability to sell tickets online. I think they had a right to say something. Others, though, did oppose online poker specifically, like the NH lottery.

I imagine anything along these lines would be directed at the specific lotteries in opposition, right?

I think we show our elected officials our opinion much better by protesting out on the streets, not thru lazy tweets. Let's try organizing something real this time since we actually have a shot with state regulated poker.

Sure. Can you take the lead in choosing a place and time for the protest in your state, along with any logistical help you think you'll need? I'll be happy to help by ensuring PPA members in your state get invitations to attend.

P.S. Fewer than ten people showed up to the three Kentucky trials where our governor sought to seize the domain names of online poker and online casino gaming sites, despite multiple emails to the PPA membership requesting that they come to represent, give interviews, etc., so it's possible you may not find poker players as ready to travel to protest as you may imagine. In other words, if poker players were willing to protest by the thousands, don't you think there would have been a bunch of them already?

One thing lazier than sending tweets is not sending tweets.

Here is a post that sums up my reasoning that I sent in response to someone asking questions about my post on one of the state lottery pages:

I am a member of the Poker Players Alliance. Governors in almost all states are against legislation that would allow online poker to be regulated on a national level. Also most state lotteries are against national legislation to regulate online poker and open up the market to competition and commercial propagation.

We believe that online poker can only thrive in a competitive market because states have a horrible history of predatory pricing in their lotteries. The evidence suggests that they cannot be trusted to provide a product of adequate value to consumers of that product because they have unilateral power to overcome objections to the product they decide to provide. We also strongly believe that even if they could provide a product that was comparable to what might be offered in a free market, that allowing them to have a monopoly would be against the US Commerce Clause of the Constitution.

This is especially true because one of the tenets of Commerce Clause is that exclusivity in a commercial activity can only be allowed if there is a real conceptual objection to the underlying activity. That means that because most states either promote or allow widespread gambling or both, that they have to either open up that commercial activity to price competition or eliminate the activity entirely. That means that state lotteries cannot legally promote their games without allowing competition in their games. Once the line is crossed from mere tolerance to overt endorsement the legal basis for the concentration of the regulated activity erodes and becomes challengable.

This concept also applies to dualistic situations where revenue sharing agreements exist between Indian tribes. Because Indian tribes are Federally regulated their activity's fall within the scope of national on line poker regulation and that is why there is no boycott against them. There have been proposed boycotts against individual Indian tribes that have tried to participate in the same type of protective exclusivity that most states are currently advocating for. Just because we are boycotting the lottery does not mean we are against the concept of having lotteries.

We are against the current unconstitutional predatory pricing of lottery products and those organizations attempts to circumvent citizens wishes in the development of the skill game of poker. As a result we are asking the Congress to intercede and to set the conditions that would allow for both public and private businesses to have a chance to show the price advantages that are inherent in a free market. That is why we are asking people not to play their state lotteries until Congress passes legislation that provides the framework for the regulation of on line poker

Now here is a man with an idea. F'n love it. Don't know about the practicality but I am willing to try it.
