Hey Dynasty -

Obviously Great read - obviously we're all looking for the next installment.

One element that stuck out as you were responding to questions regarding Year 6 was the above quote.

I'm just curious - do you feel like LHE is in jeopardy still?

Do you think NL and Limit are somewhat cyclical in nature? Both online and Live - Do you think (have you seen any indication) of any sort of resurgence of Limit Poker...

Looking forward to your insight....

I haven't written anything yet. But, I'll start working on it. I've been expecting to do it so I've got the basic story in my head.

I actually wrote a Two Plus Two Internet Magazine article about that topic. A few months ago, I posted the article in the B&M forum. Here's a link.

The Status of Las Vegas Hold 'em

I thought buying 4 suits and new shoes in Boston for between 1500 - 2K was a pretty amazing feat. You a professional shopper too?
I went to a Men's Warehouse in Boston. But, that was in 2000.

It can be tough keeping the dates straight in this thread.

So do you still have that 2+2 job?
This question annoys me. Yes, I have the job.

I can remember when I first joined 2+2 in early 2003. [1] All the action was in the mid-stakes LHE forums. The gods of that forum were Dynasty, Clarkmeister, and Tommy Angelo.

I wasn't aware that Dynasty has been making yearly updates - I just read the entire thread. [2]

It's wonderful to hear from one of the guys who has survived the entire boom as a professional B&M player. Thanks for the memories, Dynasty.

This statement blew my mind. 20 years ago, a young man known in poker circles as "Abdul Jalib" [3] said to me, "If you can make money playing poker and blackjack, you can probably make more money doing something else." I am always amazed by the clarity and perceptiveness of the statement. I suspect it's virtually 100% true, including (perhaps to the highest degree) the big winners in the nosebleed games.

[1] Only because it says so next to my posts do I know when this was.

[2] Don't miss the post where Greg Raymer, either shortly before or after his 2004 WSOP win, quotes his line on Dynasty's odds of avoiding being a poker dealer.

[3] That name may create some flashbacks for Dynasty and others. If anybody knows of his whereabouts, please drop me a PM.

wow-- just spent the last 4 hours reading the entire thread and am floored. great read. well worth the time spent.

dynasty-- i just have 1 question. it seemed like you had a turn for the better when you got the job with 2+2. do you feel that having a PT job eliminated some of your stress and helped give you that 'calm confidence?' what i mean is since you didnt have to worry about your basic bills did that help you not play with such scared money.

One Sgt Rock trip report coming up. It's cool to notice that this is report is ten years old, almost to the week. It gives you a glimpse of what poker was like at the Bellagio before The Boom - when $100-200 LHE was the biggest game routinely spread.

I remember reading this post ten years ago and thinking, "Oh man - just one time - to sit down with $3K-$4K in that game and give it a shot."

Sorry for the thread hijack, Dynasty - but this is from your era - you'll prolly appreciate this.

Great read Dynasty. This thread is the 2p2 version of Michael Apted's Up series!

Its great to hear the perspective of a grinder who isn't a college kid but has actually lived life a few years.

You sound like a true gentleman gambler.

wait, so you've been playing professionally for 7 years and were playing 2/5nl most of the year... playing free rolls? also playing 1/2nl at some point during the year? is this standard for live poker?

It's so refreshing to hear an honest description of what professional poker is like compared to all the 2+2 hogwash
just because this is his experience doesn't mean that this is the true "honest" portrayl of playing professional poker lol. This is just his. Lots of online players have a much different story.
