Or a driven and talented young lawyer to go into public service rather than a big time law firm?

These are awful analogies.

There are obvious moral, psychological, lifestyle, even spiritual reasons people might prefer the former occupations to the latter.

Live poker has none of these advantages over online poker.

The one genuine advantage live has over online poker is social contact, which, while not trivial, doesn't justify playing primarily live versus online.

And fwiw I never said he was "wrong". I said "irrational in the economic sense".

I have no problem whatsoever with how Dynasty chooses to live his life. It just irks me that people were using his story as finger-wagging example of what professional poker is "really like" in order to justify to themselves their boring real-world careers.

What a great thread. It's awesome to see the progression he made as a player. He seems like such a level headed guy and never stepped out of his boundaries. There is something to be said for that.

I can relate to being in the financial services industry here in Boston(probably any city for that matter.) I have been licensed to sell securities plus Life, Accident and Health insurance for the last 4 years. It is a very demanding and thankless job. Like they say your only as good as your last trade. I haven't been happier since I voluntarily resigned last May 2008.

See you in Vegas in about a month.

Anyone know what ever happened to pokerbabe? Met her a couple of times, she hasn't posted since 2004.

this story certainly isnt inspiring. the guy was obviously loaded with cash before he became a pro. it doesnt sound like he needed to work for money whether it be poker or accounting.

Great read. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Sorry I haven't read every comment so it may have been stated but I thought buying 4 suits and new shoes in Boston for between 1500 - 2K was a pretty amazing feat. You a professional shopper too?

Great story Dynasty!
Most recreational players like myself probably think about what the life would be like...I love to watch poker on TV and often get the "I could do that" train of thought running through my head...can't crush anything yet online, but I can whip my neighborhood cash game :-)

Waiting for more from you!
