The Hub of the Universe?

I lived in Worcester for 13 years. You probably don't know where that is, as Bostonians don't acknowledge there is life outside 128.

Boston can't compare to Chicago. Not even close. Not even within sight. Boston is the most overrated city in the world, mostly overrated by itself, as no one else cares even the tiniest little bit. Love Mass. Love New England. Boston is crap.

I'll enjoy Vegas. It's got enough to do.

lol, did i ever say it was the hub of the universe? no wonder you hate Boston, you must have been sick of living in the dumpiest city in New England and hearing about it all the time from Bostonians. Worcester is the scummiest, lamest city in the world, no wonder you prefer Vegas over Boston. and while downtown Chicago is slightly better than Boston, and has a better bar/party scene, the surrounding areas of Boston are INFINITELY better. The oceans> The lake. Boston suburbs> Chicago suburbs. Boston sports> Chicago sports. Boston history> Chicago history. Boston vacation spots (Martha's vineyard, cape cod, nantucket)> Chicago vacation spots (Wisconsin?) Boston location (new england! 3 hours from new york)> Chicago location (midwest, lol) Boston colleges> Chicago colleges. Boston hospitals> Chicago Hospitals. I can't blame you for hating Boston, as you must have had 13 years of excruciating jealousy of your neighbor to the east.
agreed.

this guy is clearly, ridiculously, bitter.

who's bitter? Chicagoans do not even consider Boston in the grand scheme of things. Chicago is the 2nd City, and I assure you it isn't to Boston.

the 2nd-city was a nickname that Chicago gave itself when it used to be the 2nd largest city in America, now it's not, but call your city that if you like. chicago is a nice city, don't get me wrong. downtown is pretty great, but it's no Boston. Boston is a city of firsts. it is the oldest major city in America, first Church in America, first public park, first country club, first high school, first public school, first lighthouse, first public library, first subway and bus system, first college, oldest baseball park, the oldest and most coveted marathon in the world, the first chocolate mill. I literally could go on for pages about Boston's firsts. we are home to the world-famous new england falls, and summer destinations within a short drive. skiing in the winter. our seafood is world renown. o ya, you may call yourself "the 2nd city" but Boston is "the HUB!" Boston is the smartest city in the world, not-debatable. more than 250,000 students attend college in Boston (at some of the best colleges in the world) My high school was represented by the most countries of any school in the the US, and my town is the most economically diverse in the US. it is the second biggest stop for refugees from opressive countries. oh yea, I guess Boston isn't that important in the "grand scheme of things" unless you are glad we are a country free of British rule. Maybe you forgot about "one if by land, two if by sea," Paul Revere, the Boston Tea Party and all that. I guess you're not much for history or appreciating the city that paved the way for your city. Chicago is a real international port there, and America just wouldn't be the same without it?!? Boston was the most important city until the mid 1800's. Things would not be the same today were it not for Boston, and it reflects in the city and it's culture today. clearly you have never been to Boston, and I have surely been to chicago. please sir, return to your cookie-cutter suburb and stick to w/e it is you do best, because it's certainly not defending your city.

Not to be a super-nit, but Red Rocks Canyon is just outside Vegas and is stunning. In fact, it has become one of the top "winter destination" rock climbing areas in the world. (BTW - I love Boston.)

Also, good luck Dynasty I hope this year you break through in a big way.

Sorry to hear about your dad, that was really sad. How old was he?

Congrats on making it through six years. As far as whether your story is depressing or inspirational, one simple question for you. Are you enjoying being a poker pro in vegas?

I have lived in Boston all my life, and I have done some traveling and I don't know if we are the hub of the universe but we are far from crap, we are about the same age Cactus so I am speaking from a somewhat similar view but I have to disagree here, I am driver and at least 95% percent of the visitors here that I drive think Boston is wonderful, if you ever come here again although it sounds it like it would have to be by gunpoint, I would be glad to buy you a beer and maybe help soften your view of us.

Holy [censored] you guys had the first country club, what a selling point!

Most of the stuff in your post looks good in a brochure and is about completely meaningless, but Boston is still a cool town. Its just the PEOPLE...

Cold weather sucks. Places with cold weather suck. Hence, Boston and Chicago suck HARD.
I went to Chicago one time in early March to purchase a vehicle. The high was 23 degrees that day, but omg it was sunny. I made a comment about how horrible the weather was, and the salesman looked at me like I was crazy. "What are you talking about, it's sunny outside and 23!"

Any place where the citizens get a hard on over 23 degrees in early MARCH can suck it. Driving home even made me more pissed off because my new balla car was getting salt all over it from the crappy roads due to snow.

Gimme warm weather where the broads aren't pale bayyybe.

yup, red rock canyon is sweet, and hoover dam is one of my favorite places in the world, as strange as that may sound (i have my reasons). as far as most of my stuff being meaningless that is completely untrue. A) what are you going to argue that the wheel is a meaningless invention? it is the foundation for what we have today in more advanced tires. all of these Boston firsts set the foundation to build on. B) these things have influenced the history of Boston and made it such a beautiful and cultured city today. sure it doesn't make the golf course any better because it was the first one, but the area around it is what it is today because of it and it's importance to golf in America (plus, it's home to the greatest American Ryder cup in golf history).

plus we just got the big ticket (kevin garnett). Dare I say world series, NBA championship and superbowl all in one year?

the cold weather makes you appreciate the warm weather so much more, plus we can ice-skate, ski, throw snow balls, have snow fights, and most importantly, snow days bitches. plus other places that have warm weather in the winter, are too hot in the summer. lord knows the best time of the year is summer time when you get outta school and just party all the time with all the girls looking so good. i live in scottsdale now, and its like a ghost-town in the summer, it sucks.

I have always had a lot of respect for Dynasty and this thread just confirms my position. What you are reading isn’t a tragedy or a gamble-holic gone bad, this is real life just like what happens everyday. Poker magazines don’t write about it and it never makes the final edit of a poker TV show but I am really glad that Dynasty cares enough about the two plus two community to give us the actual facts.

I am absolutely convinced that writing the sixth year post was a difficult task and I stand in awe that he did it.

If you read this and think, “Wow, Dynasty sucks at Poker!” you are a clueless noob. Ninety five percent of all new businesses fail and they all struggle with capital. This is a story of someone running a business, taking a couple of swift kicks in the nuts, and landing on his feet.

A lot of the posters here on two plus two are young and may read Dynasty’s thread and not understand what they are reading so I want to weigh in (and that is a considerable weight) to give my perspective.

Having journalism background and having lived in Dallas, Chicago and Boston, the public library here is quite all right. You probably aren't going to the right one(s)? There are many branches.

There's plenty to do here. I've seen Clapton and Seegar for less than $80 ea, this year. Buffett later, for same. (Really looking forward to that!)

What do you mean "recreation" is lacking? What else would you want to do? Hell, you can even go ice skating here.

Outside of NY, what place has "theater"? Or are you thinking something like in The Big Lebowski?

MicMan, I just think you're way off on your view of Vegas. A city of 2 million people has everything any place else does, of comparable size, and this is still a very young city. Comparing it to cities who've been around for a couple of centuries is ridiculous.

I suggest you explore more.
Bro, if you have lived in Boston then you would know that vegas is seriously lacking in cultural, recreation, public services and a general vibe. it could never touch Boston in any facet except for gambling. vegas is fun for all us sick gamblers but god is it just fundamentally such a terrible city. first off, it is in the middle of the damn desert, the public parks are scarce and crappy. the scenery is really ugly within 15-20 miles of the city (ugly trees, very little grass, more gray than green). there are no cool neighborhoods like Boston has in jamaica plain, roxbury, mission hill, brighton or brookline. the city has no feel to it besides gambling (because it has like a 40 year history, and its pretty much the history of gambling). yes, there is no theatre, there is no great arts scene, no intellectuals scene. the schools on all levels there are crappy. outside of the strip, vegas is so empty, inside the strip it is often the same too once you get past the thrill of bright lights and gambling. vegas is definitely a spectacle, and i am always excited when i arrive, but im always ready when i leave. it is pretty much a wasteland, and while there seems to be so much always going on, it's not going anywhere. vegas is on the fore-front of going nowhere as fast as possible. essentially it is a city where people go to watch money trade hands. what great companies are in vegas? i really hope you get out and see more of the world, go overseas. go to those new york, chicago, boston, seattle. you will quickly see a difference between those cities and your beloved vegas
How old are you?
