I wonder if this will affect WSOP?

https://apnews.com/1d59806ecf004a4fae4c76c6e350615b

"Casinos could watch tens of thousands of employees walk off the job for the first time in more than three decades after union members voted to authorize a strike at any time starting June 1, a move that could cripple the city’s world-famous resorts."

"The union last voted for a strike in 2002 but reached a deal before employees walked out. The last strike, in 1984, spanned 67 days and cost the city and workers tens of millions of dollars."

"The latest strike would mean losing workers with roles critical to making a casino-hotel run: bartenders, housekeepers, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks and other kitchen workers. It would affect properties including Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio, MGM Grand, Stratosphere, The D and El Cortez."

"MGM Resorts International and Caesars Entertainment Corp. operate more than half the properties that would be affected by a strike. MGM said it will keep meeting with the union. A vote such as this is an expected part of the process,” the company said in a statement after results were released. “We are confident that we can resolve the outstanding contract issues and will come to an agreement that works for all sides.”

Caesars released a statement late Tuesday saying it expects to reach an agreement with the union “on or about June 1.” Shares of both casinos slid around 2 percent before the opening bell Wednesday and other gaming-affiliated companies were under pressure as well."

The last time there was a strike was 34 years ago.

Expect a contract extension while talks continue past June 1.

99% approved authorization for a walkout. Hopefully as you suggested, it will get settled or extended while they negotiate. Besides pay, they are discussing the introduction of artificial intelligence and robotics and protection jobs from those advancements. That could be a major issue.

As I pointed out in the LVL thread about this, the Rio is one of the casinos not affected by the potential strike. The Wynn might be the only place on the Strip not affected.

I feel like this should encourage the casinos to come to a fair agreement unless they are super greedy or have some ideological desire to engage in union-busting.

Political views aside, they are kind of digging their own grave with this move afaict. Las Vegas is the #1 city in the United States prone to automation job loss over the next 10 years. If they pull these kinds of shenanigans, they are going to expedite job flight.

McDonald's went to computerized-kiosks and apps for ordering. Vegas will do the same for its table games.

Nah .... first off the McD kiosks are really bad interface-wise, there is still someone who gets your order ready for you.

Computerized gaming tables do not do very well. Nor do Blackjack machines in bar tops. People want a live dealer.

That study seemed to equate level of education with likelihood of automation. I think it ignored the specific type of employment in the hospitality and services industries prevalent in Las Vegas.

Really? You might want to take a look at the 100s/1000s of roulette machines that do a huge business in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

I think you're wrong, but have no evidence to back this up except I see computerized blackjack, roulette, and sic-bo (I think is the game) being played EVERY time I go to the casino, with sometimes a big crowd gathered around. Players don't care so much about a 'live dealer', they really don't. Action is action, gamblers will gamble.

Using WSOP as leverage would be smart of them though.

The McDonalds close to me is making their employees walk the customers through ordering through the kiosk if they aren't busy and the customer walks up to the counter.

5 year Deal with Caesars announced this morning, subject to ratification, but no strike likely.

https://www.cdcgamingreports.com/uni...-with-caesars/

Caesars owns the Rio, for which the existing contract already ran thru the WSOP..

Likely to see MGM talks continue.

Of course the employee is "busy", someone just walked up to place an order, duh.

How would McD know if the customers were busy ? Of course, the customers' time counts for nothing.
