However, If everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be by June 1st then people still being scared of covid should be irrelevant because things would be the same in the fall as they would be in July-August. The Venetian is going to run a big series in June. WSOP definitely chose to be cautious, which is totally fine, but it is unfortunate for those who won't be able to make it.
Amazing the guy that says I'm missing the point doesn't get my point which you got in your first sentence. I have very little issue with it being in the fall this year, I was commenting on the full time pros that want it moved for good because the weather is better in the fall. I don't see that happening, but figured I'd offer an opinion from someone that plays poker full time, also works full time, and has a family.

The only person I've seen talking about bringing their kids to Vegas is the guy that's perfectly happy with moving the WSOP to the fall forever and sees no issue with it. Unless I missed something....... Who the **** brings kids to Vegas? I mean really, I barely want to go to that shithole let alone have my kids around it.

So if you aren’t bringing your kids either way, why does it matter if they are in school or not?

My only kid is too young for this so I have no personal experience, but a lot of kids go away to camp over the summer.

The bigger issue is simply that it is much, much easier to take extended vacations during the summer in many, many professions than it is during the fall.

“The guy” didn’t say that. You, again, miss the point completely. But like I said earlier, some people like to whine and complain about everything, they can’t even think coherently.

And Vegas has a lot of nice outdoor activities in the fall if you go away from the strip and drunken crowds. But carry on with your pessimistic whining.

And as another poster pointed out, if you aren’t bringing kids either way, what are you complaining about?

Because a lot of the most important stuff for the year happens in the fall for which some parents will want to be around for if they can. The summer comparatively is slow. September-November is a non starter for taking a poker trip for some based on numerous different dynamics that have already been talked about. Some will still come play as much as they would regardless but the amount of people who can/will would be less.

Like what professions? Other than teaching, what are you referring to? People keep making these blanket statements without elaborating.

Like what? Other than the proximity to Thanksgiving and perhaps Christmas, what important things happen in October?

Interesting, but WAY too early for this poll to be meaningful in terms of what WSOP looks like IMO. If things go as expected (and that's far from a sure thing, of course), I think public attitudes will have shifted greatly. If vaccinations roll out as planned and there isn't something new going on that requires masking again, I'd think the number of people actually wearing masks at tables will be 20% or less. Most likely single-digits, but that could get bumped up by international numbers, and maybe people using the opportunity to hide expressions.

I like the weather in June/July. It’s a dry heat so while you are hot you aren’t sweating bullets. And it’s nice to sit by the pool, the heat is like getting a massage all week. Not sure you can do that mid October on.

I can see the heat being a problem if you want to golf though

There might also be some people who change their stance on wearing a mask at the table when they find out how that feels after 12 hours.

Yeah, humidity is the real brutal part of heat. I don’t know how people survived in the south before air conditioning.

I think people are over-estimating how many players take 2+ weeks off to play at the WSOP. There's one group who are locals or who will head out for the whole thing and they'll be there no matter what. The bulk of the rest are there for a long weekend, or a week at most. They may plan to extend their trip if they hit it big but most know they probably won't.

If you can take off for a long weekend in early Summer you can likely do it in the Fall.

Average daily high in October is mid 80s. For most people that’s pretty perfect for going to the pool. November is cooler most days, but I’ve spent time at the pool every time I’ve been there in the past.

I’ve played nearly 1000 hours of masked poker and I can confidently say it’s a non issue. A soft, non ear pulling mask and you honestly do not notice it. Breathing is not a problem either.

Must be nice. Because I can’t stand it.
Was in Florida and had to wear one at the hard rock. Hate it.

All I feel is disgusting warm air hitting me back in the face. And I’m not even a fat slob ( no offense to anyone who is)

Honestly, I've found that the type of mask I'm wearing makes a HUGE difference on how much I can tolerate it.

At first, I wore an N95 (real N95, not KN) to go to the grocery store. Could hardly breathe after 30 minutes (I have asthma). Then, started wearing a two-layer cotton mask with a shop towel filter. Much better, but not comfortable for long periods of time. Then, I got some free two-layer ones from my work that are super comfy. Not as good protection probably, but I can wear it for long periods of time without real discomfort.

I realize (hope) the pandemic is coming to an end, but I'd still suggest that anyone try out a couple of different types of masks - some really aren't that bad.

I'm pretty surprised 58% said yes. I really hope the pandemic is practically over by then. GET YOUR VACS.

What important things happen in June July August? Comparatively school and after school stuff is more important to be around for. Without getting to in depth, the fall has a more formal structure to it and taking vacations/long weekend trips after labor day is less acceptable socially and professionally. I can't explain exactly why that is, it's just how it has become. As I keep saying for some it will be fine, but just overall there is more anchoring to being in your home city for the fall months.

In the US, the 4th of July is a holiday.

The part that you can’t explain is conditioning. It’s fascinating to me that we have been so trained to take “summer vacations”, the idea of one at any other time seems bizarre to us. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing but it really is quite interesting.

It’s part of the reason school starts early for the vast majority of children. It’s to condition them for the work world as adults. Get everyone used to waking up early and taking care of business five days a week. Again, not a bad thing but a fascinating social engineering phenomenon. Obviously there are other reasons for early school such as giving the parent(s) time to get to their jobs but the social engineering is absolutely a major component.

Maybe but don't underestimate those who are able to take off a week around July 4th, the easiest time of year to get off, to play the main. The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving might be the hardest time to take off for the entire year....

It's pretty hard to say what the wsop will look like but as a SoCal native, Vegas is a ton more appealing in October. That's one of the best months of the year for weather. I can't see any scenario where the numbers are close to normal though. We'll see. I do think things may be close to normal and an impressive turnout.

I agree, soft cloth masks with loose straps aren’t uncomfortable. They are also not that effective.

I’ve been wearing FFP2 masks for 15+ hours a couple of times and that’s a totally different thing.

I can remember when the WSOP was held in April and May at the Horseshoe. The weather was not nearly so hot then, much more bearable. For those who talk about the "dry heat" of Summer in Vegas, I can only say 105-110 degrees is miserably hot any way you cut it, or cook it for that matter. Having it in the Fall makes a lot of sense to me for many reasons, weather being only one of them. It actually frees up the Summer months to take vacations with your family if you are so inclined. When the kids are busy with school may be a better time of year for many people who like to play in the WSOP.

My sense is that the great majority of players would find a way to go no matter when it is held. Like others on here, it looks to me that as the effects of Covid continue to diminish as more people are vaccinated, we will see more widespread "return to normal" conditions existing by then. Travel should be far more easy, with fewer restrictions on traveling Internationally as well. I would expect to see large fields of players in all events. Perhaps not record numbers but still numbers that would approach pre Covid conditions. Most people (including poker players) are anxious to get out and began to live their life again.

To me, mid April to late May and mid September to late October are the nicest times of the year to visit Vegas.

In my non-family days I used to get there a week before Memorial Day and always thought the 2 week stretch around MDW was perfect in every regards. I understand when some people say “let’s do it July/August I don’t care about anything but poker when I am there” but to me those two month are just miserable in every regards.
