I am guessing that they felt it was too rushed to try and do sometime during summer. Realistically though every American who wants a vaccine will be fully vaccinated by June 1st. I'd expect all restrictions in Vegas to be lifted by then. Not sure about international people so someone else will have to shed light on when they would be able to come. So ok June would have been rushed maybe, but it could have been done in July-august if they really wanted. I fully expect it to return to the summer in 2022 but for this year it is ok just will not be able to play as much.

Because you’re continually missing my point. People need to be more adaptable and find solutions, especially given the pandemic situation. If they held it earlier in the year, there would be a low turnout because of covid fears and you would likely be complaining about how unsafe they’re being.

They’re holding it in the fall in the hopes that covid has died down a bit and more people would be willing to go. So instead of whining about your personal situation and trying to say they’re being unreasonable when they’re taking the more cautious route, try to find a solution that works for you. Taking a week or two off in fall isn’t nearly as impossible as you’re making it out to be and I think most people will be capable of finding a way to make it work. But some people just like to complain.

Some people are commenting more on whether a permanent move to the fall would be good or not. I expect this to be a one off and back to summer come 2022. With that being said, as far as this year goes it is understandable why they did it. However, If everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be by June 1st then people still being scared of covid should be irrelevant because things would be the same in the fall as they would be in July-August. The Venetian is going to run a big series in June. WSOP definitely chose to be cautious, which is totally fine, but it is unfortunate for those who won't be able to make it.

Yes, it will be a one off. But people will still be longing for the fall weather over summer.

I am pretty sure the Gov is forcing all casinos to do this, one way or the other. So May 1st should open things up a lot more.

“At this time, consideration by the Board to increase gaming floor occupancy will only be taken in cases where licensees have taken measurable and material steps to vaccinate, and thereby, protect their workforce, visitors, and the community,”

"Nevada's "Roadmap to Recovery" plan, last updated on Mar. 12, states that mitigation efforts will transition to local authority on May 1, while keeping certain statewide directives, including the face-covering mandate, in place."

LOL @ not being able to bear more than one hour with a mask. If that's your own idiosyncratic limit, you do you, but don't expect people to accommodate you. Frontline workers, retail clerks, etc. are literally wearing masks 8+ hours a day.

Even as a parent, it's not immediately obvious to me why summer is so much easier than fall. In fact, it seems like having the free child care that is school makes it easier, not harder, to leave your spouse alone with the kids. What am I missing?

I can stand more than an hour in a mask, I just choose not to do it.

And who exactly is asking for people to accommodate? I just wouldn’t go, is that cool with you?

Almost all adults in the US are going to be vaccinated by July, and no one is going to care about covid anymore. The could have easily held this July-August and gotten a much larger US audience than Sept-Nov. The only reason to hold it in the fall is to hope for a bigger international audience, but that isn't even guaranteed by delaying a few more months.

The Main event runs Nov. 4 - Nov. 17, so even for those people that are off this week, this is unhelpful.

They just announced this yesterday with almost no specifics and you've already made these plans? Did you inform your kids' school?

Of course. I was responding to the (apparently mistaken) impression that it was a suggestion that masks are an unreasonable imposition. You're obviously 100% entitled to exercise your own preference to sit out.

We have no clue how this will go. A variant could jump the vaccine fence and all bets are virtual.

Maybe they'll allow multiple entries in the main this year for the first time, 'see how it goes' and stuff and things.

I think you are being overly optimistic, but even so, you are really are not accounting for the way corporate decisionmaking is made (and needs to be made). This isn't just a backyard BBQ you can cancel if things aren't going quite as planned.

Yes, we have already discussed the idea of hiking and getting an Airbnb. I didn’t say I booked an Airbnb and I don’t really need to book anything to hike or go to the dam.

1:1 odds that based on CDC data the percentage of vaccinated adults in the US is below 75% on August 1?

I was just referring to your claim that there are no holidays / vacation time during the duration of the WSOP. The week around Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest weeks for travel in the US. So if you want to travel to the WSOP you can definitely play the closing event and stay a couple extra days in Vegas. If you fly out to Vegas after work on Friday 11/19, you have 9 full days there. I doubt the average working recreational poker player stays in Vegas for much longer during the summer?

The fact that I wouldn't want to wear a mask for 10 hours or more does not imply that I consider masks to be an unreasonable imposition. No matter how reasonable or unreasonable it is at that point, I wouldn't go.

And I was responding to someone that was saying wearing masks now is basically unnoticeable so we should just wear them.

Same. If I’m missing a week or two with the kids I would prefer it be while they are busy all day with school and work anyway rather than summer where we could do anything we wanted.

That's right around where I would expect it to be around then. If you're just talking about having taken one dose, I'd bet on that (or on 70% of adults having taken 2 doses).

I believe Israel right now is between 70-75% adults vaccinated, and it's pretty clear they are in herd immunity territory with cases down more than 90% in less than a month.

I actually might do that, depending on the schedule. As far as I know there's no information about what the plan for the week after the Main Event is.
