Really sad news as Thor is one of my favorites and always has a smile and a nice thing to say.

I have started an account for Thor and am "passing the hat" for him around Commerce during the LA Poker Classic. Will be helping him as much as possible in the hopes that we can make things easier for him in the last stages of his life for him and his wife.

Very sad. On tv he has always come off as a very likeable guy, truely class act. What I have mostly envied in him is that he comes off as a guy who really really has enjoyed his life to max.

Not necessarily so. Dont know what the latest status is but there was a major concern that he hasnt lived a big enough part of his last 10+ years in norway to be able to receive treatment for free there.

and work in Santa Monica. Great when coincidence work out so well! She was willing to see Thor today -
completely free of charge. She wants to help him decide on the best path forward - either go to Norway, get
free health care here or possibly become a "guinea pig" for some new medicine. The last one is not
as bad as it sounds, and Thor is after all a gambler, so this is absolutely a possibility.

I just talked to Thor after he had seen her and he sounded like a new man. Really happy to have met
a doctor he feels he can trust 100%. That's not something you find every day! Especially not in the USA.
Lenna thinks there's hope for Thor, something the doctor at St. Mary's Hospital said there wasn't.
Fantastic news! Hope is so important in a situation like the one Thor is in!

But, as I briefly mentioned, Thor struggles a bit with money. He has been ill for a long time and
has never managed to recover - in the situation Thor is in now, he needs to use all his strength to
get well. I therefore thought we would try to start a collection of money to help the king of Norwegian
poker. How does that sound?

There are a couple of alternatives for how this can be done, and I'm not sure what's best.
- An account here in the USA that people can deposit to
- An account in Norway that people can deposit to
- Two accounts (one in Norway and one in the USA)
- A Pokerstars account that people can transfer money to (I plan to use my own as it's pretty
much unused since I live in the USA, but only those who know me would be 100% sure the money would
reach Thor, so I'm a bit sceptic of that). I'm not sure if Pokerstars would allow opening an account
for helping Thor (perhaps Thomas or Frode (Karlsen or Fagerli) kan answer that)

Or possibly some other alternatives. Perhaps the players can give 5% of any winnings from next weeks
tournaments?

I'm sure many of you have better ideas, so don't hesitate to bring them up!

Thanks in advance for any help on behalf of Thor. I know he will appreciate it tremendously the way
his situation is at the moment.

I can mention that I have been trying to get something going here in the USA also, along with
Matt Savage (the worlds best Tournament Director) and Phil Gordon, but this is just in the beginning phase.

Thors gambling addiction is no secret. Therefore I will try to arrange things so that the money is
directed towards only sensible things. I'm not quite sure how that can be done... Here I have to
apologize in advance to Thor, but it's just for his own good!

I hope for some good suggestions!

Bump because I immediately thought of Thor when WSOP opened the 2012 Poker Hall of Fame nomination. If you feel like I do that he definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame, this year would be a good year to nominate him.

Why did they throw him out of the hospital? I had 2 lung surgeries and they kept me for a month. They can't legally just throw you out of the hospital because you have no health insurance. Or was this not in the USA? In the U.S. they can't just throw you out. I got over $40,000 in care for free...well I owe the money, but I had no employment or insurance at the time. They wanted to keep me another week and I refused! If there is a liability in releasing him post-surgery, they can't release him. The only way they can release him is if the surgery was out-patient.

All the best to Thor, regardless. I've had family members die of cancer...it sucks. I hope somehow he pulls through, and if not, I hope he goes peacefully without suffering too much. He's a legend, either way.

Sad news. I remember watching him plays head-up 7 Stud against Johnny Chan back in 1988 or 89. He has truly stood the test of time and should be in the Hall of Fame.

I saw Thor 3 weeks at Bellagio and even staked him for a $2500 at the Palms. He is doing well after his round with chemo. He takes it day by day. The type of cancer he had is never a good thing. But his name is Thor so who better to beat it!

During the main event i talked with a norwegian at my table who claimed Thor saw doctors in Norway who either gave him a less grim diagnosis or started treatment that appears to be working (or both). Either way, seemed like pretty good news!
