They, PS, would have nothing to lose (besides millions that could be used on other promos) but Phelps might lose money from other sponsors because of the idiot moral police in the USA. (Just like he had contracts slashed when he was photographed with a bong.)

PS would have to pay way over market price for Phelps' agent to recommend taking such a deal.

Well its marketing, obviously they feel he will pay for himself in customer acquisitions. One of the biggest outgoings of PS I would guess is marketing. they obviously feel the name recognition and use of his likeness in advertising is going to be a good use of their marketing dollars.

If is he's going to be used mostly for PokerStars.ES marketing his English skills may not be so important. With that said he's such a big name internationally you would think his likeness would be used on dot.COM too.
