Just looked at some of the mark up that people are charging for the WSOP. Here are the ones that caught my eye as being too high:

$10,000 Dealers Choice - Todd Brunson - 2.50 Mark Up on YouStake- I'm sure he is a favorite to cash but holy crap! 2.50?

Lexy Gavin - 1.50 for multiple WSOP events on Stake Kings.

These seem excessive. It's fine to get backing if you don't have the $ to play a tourney or want to spread your risk, but making money off the mark up and basically playing for nothing seems like they are just taking advantage of people. Discuss!

Kudos to players such as Joe Cada(1.10), Rampage(1.20 & no mark up for larger events), Daniel N(no mark up), Chance Kornuth(1.05 in high rollers) for asking for reasonable mark ups when they could ask for more.

idk, played my first live donkament since 2019 this weekend and the standard of play was so bad that i think this is false

People should be allowed to offer at any mark up they want - it's a free market just like I can start a business and charge 5x the average. Maybe some people like the gambling aspect of staking, or if some are making a losing investment they should be allowed to do so. Let adults be adults.

Actually the people not buying it have every right to criticize it. The people who think it's too high but buy anyway have no right to say anuthing bc they bought it anyway. It's like people who complain about the price of beer at a sporting event after buying it- well you're why they charge so much!

Btw I have no problem with people charging markup that might be a bad investment based on ev- but people buying it should understand that and buy it if they still want the sweat.

The police are more like vegans complaining about butcher shop prices. They're never buying any action in any of these high markup players, even at zero markup. But for some reason, they want to complain about the non-vegans getting ripped off by the touristy butcher shops.

No one should ever pay markup. It is a complete ripoff

Usually, the mark up police are extremely well accomplished tourney players that have run way above expectation. They understand firsthand how much of a lottery most of these tourneys are and they warn others accordingly, which I don’t think is mean, it’s just the truth. Degens are degen so these packages still sell out, because tourney sweats are really fun. A lot of these buyers aren’t paying mark up for skill or a positive ROI, but for the utility of the sweat.

The reality is most people should be selling for under 1.0 for most events and the best players should be selling at face or something small like 1.05 sans a few of the bigger or specialized events with great structures and/or a ton of dead money. But if that happened fields would be way down and the poker tournament economy would probably crash.

I played with her for 9+ hours in a WPT event recently. She tried to aggro bluff punt so many times and got bailed out by the deck every single time. She had the whole table quietly shaking their heads.
