ELLO GUVNA! ****in hilarious classic video.

this video kinda makes me sad, the absolute prime of poker both online and live. 2010 seems like so long ago...

It's amusing that there are a ton of gamblers throughout history just like Ted Forest, slightly degenerate gamblers. They can still be found in casinos around the world. The only reason we know this name is because he existed during the poker boom. Still wish the best for him, nostalgic thinking back to early poker days.

Question:

I was reading about Ted recently and apparently,, his strategy featured open limping. It said he wrote about and was very convinced that it was superior to raising.

Does anyone know where he wrote about it?

That stuff about his degeneracy and limping strategy sort of explains where he is today. IMO limping is sometimes playable in tournaments, but Forest's approach seems pretty fishy. I am surprised he was able to apparently do OK at high stakes back then.

He was fearless and had brains, maybe people laugh at his strategy now but 20 years ago that was a good combo for high stakes poker. Also IIRC he was an early investor into Ultimate Bet.

No matter what anyone says of Ted Forrest, he is a fearsome, awesome poker player.

He was playing a lot at the Borgata and I played a 40-80 Mixed with him. I told him that I watched him playing at the Bellagio years ago, a table right in front of the sportsbook entrance because the Hill was full. I passed the table on my way to the ladies room and he was just shoving the last of his meager chips into the pot. I lingered to see the outcome.

He was playing triple draw lowball, 10-20K. He went from all in to clearing the table in a matter of a few hours. He was focused, methodical and he ran the table over. He looked at me and smiled, told me every player at the table and said he remembered it as well.

The man has some formidable skills. I watched it in action. Thrilling to watch him felt everyone after being all in. Props to his undeniable talent.

Wow, I didn't know they played 10-20K TD. That is bigger than the 4K/8K or whatever mixed at Bobby's Room and way bigger than 50-100NL or whatever the biggest game being played now in a casino in the Pandemic.

Last I saw Ted Forrest he was min stacking a 1/2 5-card PLO game with free casino-provided water bottles stuffed into his socks.

Back in those days the games were so juicy you could beat them just about any way playing decent, kinda reminds me how Gavin Smith used to play and his vid about flat calling everything.

Lol, completely made up story. When and where was there a $10K/20K TD game? If you felted the table at that game you would make at least $3 million for the session. Forest played major tournaments and like $300/600 limit. Did he ever play the big mixed game with Brunson, Reese, and Ivey? Were those among the guys he felted and you know all of them, because they surely would be there for a game at those stakes? How can you felt the table in a limit game? How do you crush a nosebleed stakes limit game just by being smart and fearless. Lol about going to the ladies room, probably not a female poster.

I watched high stakes limit and capped NLHE/PLO/2-7 NL SD and I didn't see anyone get stacked. Wouldn't most of those guys rebuy if low? I have played many mid stakes limit games and never seen anything like someone felt the table. I haven't seen it in NL/PL games either.

Indeed, $10K/20K were the stakes for the famous Andy Beal game, at least at the start. Makes no sense that a TDL game of such size would run out in B's main area like that.

Perhaps I'm being naive, but I chalk this one up to being a typo rather than a lie. Maybe it was just $10/$20? Or could it possibly be $1K/$2K? Even that seems dubious but I don't have enough experience to opine.

He can probably beat 2/5 PLO, but not high stakes games and major tournaments like way back.

Depends on the game. Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein and others are on record saying he’s one of the greatest Triple Stud players of all-time.

The story of him being first up on the list for a 200-400 LHE that game that was running at the Mirage but not wanting to wait so he got the rest of the table to agree to let him play David Grey’s discards is still one of my favorite degen stories ever.

Eh, you get to play 99% of hands. You only don't get to play aces and kings if it is unopened to you in the cutoff or later.

Any Ted Forrest sightings in the last 12 months ?

Hasn't cashed an MTT event since mid 2018 (Hendon).

Has he been seen playing Cash games anywhere ?

Did he look healthy ?
