Was fun while it lasted, I guess. Appreciate all the work you put in Joseph, even if the battle was eventually a losing one.

Make sure to cashout any starscoins or gold coins you have on stars/888 as I'm not sure they can be exchanged post-ban.

How sure are you guys that ACR will still be playable? Wouldn't the bill apply equally to all sites? Why would ACR be exempt from it?

Please tell me what they could have done to help(other than raising funds for Joey). Actually it would have been great if you told us a while ago because now it's probably too late!

I think it's the fact that the goverment won't actually be enforcing it in the poker sites, it's just the sites that care about not breaking the law will pull out of Australia.

Regarding the effect of this on professionals, they can just move to another country and continue playing and will even benefit from lower cost of living. It's the recs who would be effected by the amendment and will be no longer able to play

Just like what happened in America. Another step in reducing the number of bad players.

I think it's this exactly, from memory on a conference call Amaya said they'd pull out so as to not threaten their position in the UK.

Senate aren't convening until 12:30, whatever sliver of hope is left will likely be decided then.

Do you think they'll bring an Oceanic only pokersite to australia/nz

like they did in the USA sectioned to australian players and maybe NZ.
or like france/italy?

If so how long do you think we'll be waiting to see this come to fruition.

Thanks,
A concerned rec that doesn't want to grind $10 tournaments live over playing online

Unlikely. The problem is that after the amendment it will become illegal to offer online poker to Australians, and there is no existing framework in place for regulating/licensing operators.

Man this has got me so angry !

As others have mentioned we have f**k'n Lottoland operating & advertising, cant watch the NRL without being bombarded with gambling ads/odds. Nearly every major sporting code has backing from Betting agencies

Freaking SportsBet have given me a LOC to bet with for f**ksake & I am only a nit punter !

Then you have all the phone/tablet games with "in app" purchase people are spending a fortune on (Candy Crush etc)

But hell no !! Don't dare fire up a $1 MTT or your family will be destitute ! WTF !?!?!?!

Would be remiss though not to thank Joey for the awesome fight he put up & also to Swoop for rally the troops. Thanks guys, at least someone was fighting for us recs.

So even if it gets done today at the senate, this will still go to the houses for a separate voting and that won't be for another few days right?

I assume there must be some way to re-legalize poker long-term and I'm sure Joey will have a plan once it's official. It should be much easier to get lazy poker players aboard now that it's actually been banned and they can't play anymore.

Coming back to what senator said, could that actually work?
I looked into what happened in USA after Black Friday and Pokerstars froze a lot of accounts (possibly still does?) if they access their account from USA or any other prohibited countries.
Maybe the expressvpn or whatever the main one is bit more advanced and wont be picked up?

Sometimes it can get fast tracked and happen pretty much instantly, but there's a lot happening right now so I imagine it will get stalled a bit

I'm not an expert and definitely don't advocate VPNing in any way. But just for the sake of discussion, I assume that the main problem here will be that you won't be allowed to own a PokerStars (/~any poker site) account as an Australian. So you would still have to "move" to New Zealand, open a bank account there, get a residential address where you receive a utility bill etc. Theoretically you could do do all this in a month just in an airbnb, and then you could go back to Aus and VPN from there hoping not to get caught. But if you do get caught you'll lose your playing privileges forever (or at least for a long time) and likely also the funds on your account. So unless you're one of the biggest winners this just really doesn't seem like worth the risk. But having that said, there are 100s of Americans VPNing from the States right now on PokerStars and they've been doing this every day for years. I went to the Isle Of Man to discuss widespread VPNing a few years ago at the Stars HQ and it was evident they had no means of tackling the issue. I believe this is still very much the situation today.

Again, I really don't suggest you do this and I think it's a really bad idea. It's also worth noting that the more you win, the bigger the risk of getting caught eventually is. People get bitter and might simply out you if you win the millball or something (this happened with a very well known American reg, he got snitched on by his friends). So yeah, I would really just focus on trying to change the law, surely there's some way to change things over time and luckily you already have JoeyDel who'll be the right man to lead the cause.
