The woman who answered seemed like she'd received a few similar calls (based on her tone)...

Called today and emailed using Swoop's template. I had the same impression. She seemed to know what I was on about and said she would pass the message on. She asked me to follow up with an email, which I did.

This is great and exactly what we want. They must be getting a few. Great work everyone.

This shifts the paradigm as now it isn't people he doesn't know talking about it. It is someone in his office who he talks to everyday.

Really fantastic work everyone. I have a few meetings and hopefully some media locked in for next week. The work you guys have done is a massive help to our cause!

Possible it gets delayed again but unlikely.

In saying that it is great for us if it does. If it doesn't come up in this sitting period the next time they are back is May for the budget. So it would buy us a lot of time!

I recieved a letter from MP David Coleman. Seems he is in favor of the ban. Pretty generic letter tho. He did sign in pen at the bottom of the page so that made me feel pretty special.

If poker does get banned, does anyone know if I can simply just login to my account from another country? Or do I have to officially change my address etc...

p.s So pleased to know there are people in this community that care enough about this to make an organised effort to try and prevent this from happening. Thank you so much.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us.

As the law has not changed yet, we are unable to tell you whether or not you will be able to play for real money in Australia. If real money games in outlawed in Australia then it is unlikely you will be able to play for real money when you are visiting other countries: you will need to abide to the law of your own country.

If however you decide to move out of Australia '*permanently*, then you will be subject to the law of your new country of residence. However you will need to *prove* that you live *permanently* in the new country in question by providing proof of residency:

1. A clear copy of your driver's license (front and back), or other government issued photo ID.

2. A copy of a recent utility bill which is clearly showing your full name, current address and date of issue (no older than 3 months). In lieu of a utility bill, we will accept a landline phone bill, lease, title deed, bank statement, payslip or insurance letter, which includes your full name, current address and date of issue. Please note that we will not be able to accept personal letters or online statements.

As you can see, you will only be able to provide the second document once you are settled in your new country.

Received an e-mail from Party poker today.

"We wanted to keep you updated about the Interactive Gambling Amendment Bill (2016) that is, at the moment, being reviewed by the Australian parliament.

Its purpose is to ensure the safety of the online gambling community, which is a belief we at partypoker strongly advocate as well. If this Bill passes, it will bar all online gambling sites not locally licensed by the Australian State or Territory law. Since there is currently no such charter governing the licensing of online poker operators like partypoker, this means the Bill will basically end real-money online poker for Australian players.

We are proud to say that partypoker is among the safest, most regulated online poker sites in the world, operating from a global gaming headquarters licensed and located in Gibraltar. We always play fair, which means complying with local regulations. This means if the Bill is passed into law and the amendments in it are implemented, we will most likely have to stop offering real money play. Of course you will still be able to play free-to-play games as long as we are legally allowed to offer them.

What about my account status?

Rest assured you will still be able to access and withdraw your money, regardless of what happens with the proposed regulations.

Can I do anything?

At the moment, all you can do is to check in with the Australian Online Poker Alliance to voice your support to protect the Australian online poker community and to see what initiatives they have enacted on your behalf."

Haven't followed the thread, but... is "is poker a game of skill" still a debate by some politicians in 2017? Sure, it's gambling, but it's skill gambling.

I wouldn't post any graphs or anything by individual players. I would reference the Libratus challenge for example. Does any congressman really think universities around the world would be so ******ed, that they would spend time, effort and resources trying to figure out how to beat casino games. There's a reason they study poker AIs, not roulette AIs.

It's really worrying (and confusing) that if i'm an Australian citizen but on a working visa in Canada I still won't be able to play if it gets banned?

I thought it was just purely based on location (as I've been to America and logged on to see I could only play with play money chips)

Reading the response above by Stars it's such a freaking stressful time.

So we just had a good win.

I won a debate at the Reid FEC meeting in which we calle on the government to amend the Interactive Gambling Act to exclude online poker.

We won the vote 18 to 3. So the Ministers will now get a letter on behalf of the conference calling for change and we will now try to move the debate to State Council where the Prime Minister is.

I've sent documents to change this, thank you - I'm also making sure I do everything outlined I this thread to help keep Aus in the market. I'm heading back to aus for a family trip soon and intend on abusing my friends landline phone for quite some time haha.

Great work again. I'm think we should nominate Joey for the Australian Poker Hall of Fame at Aussie Millions next year if we win this thing.

Also reassuring to see that people who I assume are involved with the LNP can be convinced that our position is sensible on its merits when argued coherently. I explained the difference between poker and pokies to a Nick Xenophon fan on Twitter and while she was still taking the gambling is bad line she understood and appreciated the difference between social games of skill and the gambling addicts mindlessly playing slots/pokies
