Didnt get a chance to speak with Shane unfortunately as he was playing when I busted and didn't want to disturb him

Pokernews article looks good we should get some shares on fb/retweets going along with links to the Contact MP form.

I'll contact my MP again later in the week and see if I can get more info on what she'd be leaning towards if the amendment was offered

Good job for not giving up guys, Romania has stupid and corrupt political people and we still did regulate online poker after all. Keep up the good work and make your voices heard!

The gist of the reply I got was that the 2016 amendment merely seeks to enforce the intent of the original 2001 legislation. The senate review of the 2016 amendment was not given authority to look outside the amendment so by inference things like changing the status of poker legality were not considered. The political consensus belief is that the intent of the original 2001 legislation was to ban poker. The 2016 amendment makes sure that happens.

BTW the petition when I last checked had only just over 1500 signatures. That is very disappointing and is only likely to confirm and harden pollies' inaction on poker as the politically safe option.

Not sure what your comparator is to assume this is disapointing. Championing online poker is a pretty niche campaign, it's not like they are banning cat gifs.

I've been impressed with the Aus campaign going from a standing start to where it is today so quickly. Likely it will remain a marathon not a sprint and it may take years to overcome the damaging enforcement of the 2001 Act but that's the nature of the endeavour undertaken.

Joey's doing the bulk of the work and should receive most of the credit.

My gf got a copy paste style response from Karen Andrews (my local MP who had her staff member call me) when she wrote in basically explaining what the bill does without offering a stance on it either way or addressing the issue of Joey's amendment at all. When we get a chance we'll both call their office again and let them know this issue will determine whether we vote for her reelection or not (it's a safe electorate so our votes don't matter unfortunately)

Tony Hachem posted on FB that he's at Shane Warne's table today, I sent him the link to the contact MP form and AOPA page and asked him if he can ask Shane on break whether he'd be willing to contact his MP and/or give us a retweet as I know Shane and Tony are friends. Would certainly help having one of Australias most loved sporting heroes supporting our cause.

@Richas the key is for us to get this amendment considered within the LNP before the Amendment allowing for enforcement of the original act passes. If we can do that we're good and we have a legitimate shot at it with a few politicians already on board.

Joey i'm home from Aussie Millions now so if there's anything I can do to help out at the moment let me know.

Hey guys,

Hope you are all well.

Just posting an update.

We are quickly running out of time. I have heard that the government will look to bring this legislation to the floor in the first sitting period.

This gives us just a few weeks to be heard.

We need to engage directly with the MPs more through twitter as these are much more likely to go directly to the MP as opposed to one of their staffers.

I have set up links to target a few of the key MPs and senators directly. Can you all please click these links to send these tweets out. Also please share them through your contact list and with other poker players you know so that they too might get involved.

Minister Tudge - http://spredd.it/yx7CcbR4
Minister Fifield - http://spredd.it/WpS1z118
Senator Leyonhjelm - http://spredd.it/22fOIuQ1
Senator Lambie - http://spredd.it/YAffIj54
Senator Hanson - http://spredd.it/dxA9Pf7u
Senator Hinch - http://spredd.it/a5O2J5bS
Senator Xenophon - http://spredd.it/8da5cgx9

I have also had some good discussions with a major poker site, a major international poker lobbying group and a major pub poker operator in Australia.

I will update you on these as soon as I know how our requests go. Likely to be in the next 24-48 hours.

Joseph

Not to derail but this isn't true. Hive network (tiger) and ACR will still offer games, It's possible that there may be a micro skin as well that will take people (one that still takes people from israel)

Yeah - and tiny little bit-coin operated sites that either already exist, or may pop up. Plus I'd imagine any sites currently allowing USA players.

But the reality is, there'll be no where left where you will have both of the following, and very lucky if you have even one:

A) Security - good security against cheats, super-using, collusion, bots, etc. Plus you can trust your withdrawals will be smooth, etc.

B) High-traffic - a site where games are actually running. Regular Cash games at all stakes, a variety of poker game types, MTTs with a few hundred runners, etc

If someone could get on the aussie millions live stream with Jcarver and explain about this, would it be any help or pretty much just preaching to the converted?

Would it make sense to try and make this a state issue? WA have an election coming up in March and there appears to be a significant number of seats with narrow margins. Maybe we could get the WA politicians to put pressure on Tudge?

Also, if I was to play a “Call of duty” tournament and a site had a subscription based service that provided a cash prize to the winner if you were signed up. Would that site be providing a gambling service?
The IGA 2001 says “a gambling service is a service for the conduct of a game, where the game is played for money or anything else of value; and the game is a game of chance or of mixed chance and skill; and a customer of the service gives or agrees to give consideration to play or enter the game;”

Putting aside the issue of whether a video game is a game of mixed chance and skill (as I don't think it could be solely grouped as a game of chance), I don't believe anyone could reasonably categorize a video game as a gambling service.

Also, there is no fee to sign up and play the game (well at least according to your example) so I don't think it satisfies the term gambling there as well.

Hey guys, Joey is busy today but he's making some calls to some key politicians and a journalist who is writing an article addressing our issue.

In the meantime here is today's action plan from the AOPA Facebook Page

Everyone who has a twitter account please click the two links for the prefilled tweets should take 30 secs or less.
