I play on Titan and it's fine. I've had accounts on a couple other skins over the years as well with no issues. As far as I know all of the ipoker skins are available in Australia, it's just Carbon and now SuitedAce, both of which are irrelevant in the grand scheme that dont take Australian customers

Doesn't seem likely to pass if the pub and club industry oppose it. They can threaten job losses/closures and force the government to back down.

It would be troubling precedent if it passes, but I don't think it will.

Just speaking negatively for a second, with the shift of the political sphere to the left in state politics, there is going to be extra focus on new taxation revenue sources with the expected further decline in the competency of the administration of government. So, whether that will mean new taxes for gambling, who knows?

But gambling is an easy target. The only argument against it is that these taxes usually hurt the low socio-economic group the most which usually supports the left anyway so they won't want to put them off-side. Although even if they do they can probably have knowledge that they will still vote that way so this argument to the contrary could all be moot anyway.

A bunch of question for a friend in holiday there...

- What he need to have in order to open up an account of mayor sites? (Right now he has a working holiday visa, health card, tax file number and a payroll)
- Does he have to pay taxes on winnings?
- He thinks he's going to leave in a year, after that can continue to play and use skrill/neteller without any troubles?

ty a lot guys

- I opened a couple of accounts (Stars, 888) with zero ID except the credit card I used to deposit funds
- No tax on winnings, except possibly if you declare yourself a professional.
- Not sure about this question

EDIT

Quick google on Australian tax on gambling: http://www.gamblingtaxation.com.au/

Ehhh.. the wording seems to indicate they're looking at sports betting rather than online poker. Hopefully, anyway.

As an Australian it's just sickening to even have to sweat this when you can find a ****ing pokie machine around every corner with pensioners and dole bludgers blowing through their rent and grocery money because they can't help themselves and don't know any better.

Gonna be tilted for eternity if anything happens to poker.

From searching around a little bit, this doesn't seem to be about enforcing the Interactive Gambling Act more strictly (Which would ban poker sites), but rather updating it and possibly moving towards regulation.

It all seems to emphasize that they don't want these sites to be able to take Australian money and not pay any tax, not that they're looking to ban them.

I did find an interview with 2 Brisbane MP's and one of them said something about pokies being over regulated and online gambling sites being under regulated and we need to balance that out more, which is pretty absurd, but I don't think this is about banning sites.

They are looking to ban aspects of gambling, though. They specifically don't like the "in play" sports betting options that have popped up in the last year or so because most of the books in Aus are pretty much breaking those laws with a technicality so I do agree they're more interested in sports betting than they are poker sites.

Yes exactly. Let's not get too worried here.

EDIT: That is until Richas sees the thread.

I've come to the conclusion after almost a year that we ain't going to get UKGC action despite their earlier statements. Quite why I don't know but it's hard to argue with lack of action.

Pleased for Aus players.

Just saw a snippet on underage online gambling on the today show news this morning and it just showed images of people multitabling online poker. Usually they show pokies. First time I've seen poker.

There was a short snippet on 9 news just now showing images of Full Tilt. Very short but it said something about online gaming leading to online gambling addiction and <18s bypassing the law and using mobile apps to gamble.
