Joey should go down in history as a disgrace to the Australian poker community.

His selfishness and silence over an enormous length of time are inexcusable. He took all of the energy and enthusiasm that the Australian poker community held and he channelled it all towards himself. Then he chose to disappear, taking our hopes of online poker with him.

The man is a disgrace. He is a bad person.

He's gonna come back with another massive apology giving his usual dribble, and admitting how he should've been more attentive and update us more regularly and the usual arse lickers will defend him and we will be posting this stuff same time next year. So over it.

Not recently no although I haven't messaged him in a while either. I'll fire another message over but at the end of the day I think it's past the point where we can expect anything to happen this term. I hope I'm wrong on that. Its pretty lol the LNP just lurches from scandal to scandal this term like after the covid crisis it's Parliament house rapist into attorney general alleged rapist into now botched covid vaccine rollout

Asking government to enact legislation or amend current acts shouldn't be a big ask. It's their job. So the whole "oh covid... oh bushfires.... or scandals" is pretty much just bullshit

Yep and every single night I get bombarded by these ads from sports books by the likes of Shaq, Mark Walberg, Allen Iverson... and its not a trivial amount they literally spend millions and flood the market with advertising because they know how important a role repetition and psychology plays in getting people hooked.

So betting sports from your phone / computer is ok but poker is not? The level of hypocrisy is so blatant and obvious its disgusting. Amending legislation to provide consistency and a level playing field is not a huge ask and will be beneficial for all parties involved in the long run

Yeah I mean we all agree here it's absurd and ridiculous that you can bet 20k on a sporting match but not play a $6 mtt

Ironically you can also bet 20k on a sporting match (til the book bans you if you're a winner except for a few books like topsport and one or two small other ones that allow winners) but if you try and bet in play online for a dollar thats not allowed because problem gambling or whatever, but then if you call them up on the phone like its 1992 you can bet tens of thousands in play again. But you can't do it on the internet like elsewhere, because once the match has started thats a problem, whereas you can bet your net worth pre game if the book's willing to take the bet

Side note, but Mark Wahlberg can go **** himself those ads are so ****ing annoying and ladbrokes are absolute scum as far as books servicing the Australian market go as far as banning/harassing winners and targeting losers with perks to get them to deposit more while claiming to be in favour of helping problem gamblers. Their entire business model is exploiting problem gamblers more so than literally any other book

Messaged Joey yesterday, no response on whatsapp; I know he has some other priorities in his life but he really should just say he can't do this anymore if thats the case or update the AOPA mailing list/2p2 even if it's there's no update since last time

I don't have the time to do anything to lead the fight myself but will obv take whatever steps I can to help the poker community in general moving forward. It is still fairly easy to play online in Australia across a few sites, just stupid they won't put together a pathway for everyone to play on all legal and regulated sites etc

Even if Joey does respond he should be dropped. Let's move on from him.

In other news, how the hell is castle hills rsl running such a big poker series next week? Including a $2.5k buy in event? I didn't think clubs could run such expensive buy in tournies?

Where is the cap in buy ins coming from? I know up here in Queensland where buy in games used to be restricted and not allowed that Eatons Hill Hotel had an $1100 buy in game probably just before COVID struck.

I don't think they're capped; we've had some 3k high rollers in southeast qld for a while live etc and tons of 1k+ events at the WPT League/QPC and APT series

I last heard from him on December 1 2020 so it's been a while.

I'm not the right person to lead the cause personally as my focus has been elsewhere the past few years (I transitioned out of poker and into sports betting; i've probably played like 10 online mtts in the past year and that's it poker volume wise since I grinded a bit early into Covid in 2020) but i'm happy to do whatever to help out someone else if they want to take the cause up and obviously happy to brief politicians on the issue to get them up to speed or testify in front of the senate again or whatever if it gets to that stage.

I know one of my friends in the LNP in QLD has been pushing his allies in parliament to support the cause of legal online poker but not in any official capacity. For all I know Joey could be doing stuff behind the scenes but I have no idea as I haven't heard from him in months

For what it's worth it seems like it's fairly easy to play on most sites from Australia for those who have the inclination to do so with the exception of the Stars group which Amaya/Flutter etc have been running into the ground if 2p2 is any indication (I haven't played there myself since they left the Aus market) but it's still relatively easy to play on their main competition etc for those who want to
