They view raiding a 1/3 game as more important than investigating actual significant crime because it makes for a good headline when they 'shut down an illegal casino that might have been laundering money for organised crime' even though obviously it's a card game not a casino and the idea that organised crime would launder... cash into also cash at a 1/3 underground home game is laughable.
I'm a law abiding citizen and my three encounters with Aus law enforcement in my live have all been overwhelmingly negative due to police incompetence, the police here have no problem with lying and the one time I was a victim of an actual crime (attempted arson, guy broke in and lit a mattress on fire in our garage at a sharehouse because he was feuding with one of my roommates at the time) with two witnesses who knew the perp and saw him commit the crime they said they 'didn't have the resources to investigate'. Too busy raiding 1/3 games obv. They did nothing when a friend of mine was being stalked by a guy who had previously committed domestic violence against her either despite multiple witnesses to the stalking/violating a restraining order. Nothing was done despite this going on for months with a restraining order in place.
and they wonder why many law abiding citizens have a '**** the police' attitude. There are plenty of good cops as well as bad, but the bad apples spoil the bunch in this case because there are too many police who are lazy, incompetent, liars or a combination of all three. Even framing the bust as 'helping combat organised crime and money laundering' is obvious bull****. How the hell would someone launder money through an illegal private home game, turning unreported cash income into unreported cash income?
There's a whole ****load of money laundering that goes through the high stakes tables and the Mahogany room at Crown/Star though with drug dealers using the casino to clean their money and i'm sure they don't give a **** about that
Ok, that concludes my 'large portions of law enforcement in Australia are incompetent, lazy and/or liars' rant for today.

Bonus link for police brutality against disabled pensioner for no reason, and not being stood down, and something only being done because said disabled pensioner had a home security camera. Police corruption isn't just a US problem.
