Still here, just waiting on the National Consumer Framework thing to be all sorted out so that Leyonhjelm and co can try and get poker unbanned. Apparently we just have to wait until the debate starts up again and then it'll be time to mobilise again. We'll see how it pans out and in the mean time we'll continue to play on the remaining unregulated sites I guess.

I can't recall offhand but I believe the estimate was 'sometime this year'. Joey would have more info than me or if you send a tweet to Leyonhjelm he'll probably reply

I would suggest to contact Stars support.

I played some playmoney the other night, I miss it so much. Even playing a couple of hundred zoom hands for match sticks was fun.

This may be a dumb question but I’d appreciate an answer if you know

I’m going to London next month. I have a UK bank account. If I sign up for a site that I’ve never played on before and use my UK bank details and a UK home address (not sure that’s needed), can I then play when I return to Aus?

Or would I need to play through a VPN still?

Related question...are there any incidences of poker companies tracking Aussie play via VPN and banning the players/refusing withdrawals?

No you can't play in Australia fullstop on the main sites. Doesn't matter where you are from

Stars actively hunt vpners other sites less so but it's still a risk since you're breaking their tos and obviously will be banned and not paid if caught vpning etc so it's not recommended

You can play on acr ignition and the bitcoin and Chinese sites from Australia currently but that's it

Some of the data from the report could be useful (e.g. 130k poker players in Aust.). The way in which the data has been interpreted and applied doesn’t seem entirely convincing (the report uses the phrase ‘To put it another way’ more than once, which indicates a certain rhetorical logic or bias, for instance). That no distinction has been made between poker and other forms of gambling, such as table games, is frustrating, and ultimately misleading. It is surprisingly short, too, and reads as if it were put together rather quickly and without much forethought.

This could be interesting for some- PokerStars owner buys majority share in CrownBet

One of the world’s biggest online gambling companies has purchased Crown’s 62 per cent share in CrownBet.

The Stars Group, owner of two of the world’s two biggest poker sites, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, has agreed to pay Crown around $150 million for the majority share of the CrownBet business.

It is expected the CrownBet brand will remain until at least September, while founding chief executive Matt Tripp will remain in charge of the company.

“We scoured the globe for the best partner for the business and The Stars Group quickly became our number one target,” Tripp said. "Their endorsement is a shot in the arm for our business and a sign we're tracking well in a highly competitive market."

The Stars Group’s entry into the Australian market comes as somewhat of a surprise after PokerStars exited the Australian markets ahead of the ban on online poker which came in last year.

The Canadian company has online gaming licenses in 17 other countries already and is expected to be a major player should the sports betting market open up in the United States in the near future.

"We are excited to enter the regulated Australian sportsbook market with CrownBet," said Rafi Ashkenazi, Chief Executive Officer of The Stars Group. "CrownBet has become one of the fastest growing online sportsbooks in Australia through its strong management team, proprietary technology, mobile app, unique partnerships and market-leading loyalty program."

CrownBet, with the clout of The Stars Group now behind them, are one of the bidders for William Hill’s Australian business.
