Is there any way to appeal their decision?

The high court.
Funding might be a challenge - maybe we can get some rich libertarian billionaire on our side.

Does that not matter now?
It might matter for any future amendments to exclude online poker.

Well not that the amendments were similar in any way but the House didn't accept Xenophon's regardless. Also it was Labor that agreed to the Xenophon amendment in the senate, not the Coalition

don't know anything about politics but if we can somehow get this to the high court wouldn't there be a good chance at getting an amendment through or is it just some long shot idea?

IANAL but you'd need to have some kind of legal basis / precedent for the challenge. I've got no idea what that would be...

A UK judicial review would be possible on the basis of incomplete consultation but what is not clear to me is the implementation date. Often with business related legislation or regulatory changes (at least in the UK) months are given to allow firms to comply.

Does anyone know if it is immediate in Aus or is it the final sign off that sets the implementation timescale?

It will go into assent which averages about 30days, i would say anywhere between the 12th-20th of September.

House of Reps has actually already approved it as the bill/amendments didn't change between houses this time. The schedule commences 28 days after royal assent, which will likely happen this week. Above guess looks good but may actually be slightly earlier

Leyonhjelm tweet in response to me

Once committee has reported, use it to contact local members and senators.

Obviously today was a negative for us, but we'll continue on i'm sure Joey will advise us of the best course forward and who within the Liberal party we need to pressure specifically etc.

We could also bombard Tudge with screenshots of us playing on unregulated sites that aren't going to pull out of the market although i'm not sure whether that would achieve anything

Another possibility would be to organise a protest of some sort but that'd only be worthwhile if we could get 50+ people on board to fly to a key location in order to get media coverage. Alternatively maybe choose a specific day for all of us to speak to our local MP's office in person but I doubt enough of us live in any one specific electorate for that to be effective even if we have 100+ people willing to do that we'll be equally spread out between electorates and 1-2 visits per office seems ineffective

So the committee still produces its report? Seems redundant now.

Perhaps we should start a new thread - Aussies playing online - advising which of the offshore sites we find to be most playable / reliable.

Otherwise, thoroughly pissed off with this outcome.

Respond to trudges tweet asking if he plans to implement recommendations from online poker committee and express we as the poker community will be voting against the lnp if online poker is banned on his watch.

There's obviously risks but I've moved a heap off ACR and BCP and won't hesitate to keep playing there.

Natural8 a.k.a GG network banned aussies a month ago

I would feel very comfortable playing on ignition and ACR, just keep small amounts on if you are worried at all, they both accept BTC so it's very easy to do

Good article here summarising our situation

https://www.cardschat.com/news/death...-for-ban-49677

One thing this makes clear is that this is not a ban on online poker in Australia, but a requirement to operate legally with a licence. Given there is no licence available it's defacto a ban, but surely what we need to do now is lobby the government for an appropriate licencing (regulatory) system. We could use the enquiry report to support that case.

We've done our bit.
To legalise online poker in Australia, the poker operators need to step up.

But regulation is partly there to protect us as consumers. Surely we want a say in that and not leave it for operators (like Luke) to 'consider' our interests?
