Talking about his last post. He said it, go back and read it.

He was going to have a meeting with some "brass" in a few days and then was going to report about it. That was over a month ago. Why say it then don't give us an update? If that is asking too much? OK, I stand corrected and will shut up.

Now did the meeting take place? If not at least tell us, (it's been postponed or whatever) if so what was the outcome?

Very fair comments from you guys about me taking a long time to come back with an update. I really need to do a better job at keeping everyone updated in the process.

What I do need to say though is that providing information is actually very difficult. There is a fine line between what can be shared at a certain time and what can't be. I hope you guys that can appreciate that at times, there may be something worth saying but that by saying it publicly we tip off our opponents as to what is going on and that is extremely problematic.

The last thing we want is a public proxy war between 'gambling is good' vs 'gambling is bad' as you can appreciate if that happens, a lot of legislators who are very positive and supportive start to run and hide - particularly with an election coming up.

Things are still looking good overall. What once looked like a happy announcement by end of year is now looking more like a happy announcement for first quarter next year.

What I can say is that overall - the election of Scott Morrison as Prime Minister is a net good thing for us. I can also say that the loss of Wentworth is a net bad for us. I would say that the Morrison win is greater than the Wentworth loss so we are actually in a better position overall.

Anyway I just wanted to jump in to post something. Thanks to Swoop for nagging me. I really need to ensure that both this and Facebook have more regular content.

A couple of years ago I foolishly decided to get my Masters in Finance (as well as working, being a dad, being a Councillor and doing AOPA stuff). Lucky the Masters is officially finished next Thursday (assuming I don't fail) that will free up a decent amount of time for me to be more interactive with you guys and to work out some good initiatives that we can all do to keep the march rolling forward.

Someone will have to explain this to me. There is no amendment needed to the bill. If I read it correctly. you just needed a licence. So with stars purchasing crownbet and William hill, they now have that licence. So why can't they operate under that licence?

this whole thing is a great big joke. the bill was introduce supposedly to stop the gambling problem in Australia. but I can still walking into a local club and drop 30k into pokie machine in what 10 minutes and no one would bat an eyelid. But here I am not being able to play a $25 dollar tournament that might take 5 hours if I run deep enough. It's just a disgrace.

The election will announce in early next year as we'll probably go to the polls in July and there is no way that Morrison and the libs/nationals hold power. So it'll just get put on the back burner and will never be brought up again because the labour pussies can't be seen back flipping on anything. This should neve have been a political issue. you want to reduce the gambling problem in Australia, get rid of pokies

Exactly we are literally ****ed - only solace if anything is to hopefully see the liberal party lurch more to the right and these right wing parties like One Nation and Australian Conservatives get ****ed over and watch the Xenophon party (or whatever the **** it is called atm) go the same way the Australian Democrats did. People they are not a ****ing centralist party but centre right party - the only thing that brings them to the centre (as in a left stance) is their view on gambling which totally goes against what most people would vote for this party for (that being a centre to centre right party) and not some party that votes for this ****ing amendment. **** me. Rant over. Australian people pick up your game.

I hold a lot of blame on pokerstars as well. They now have an Australian gambling licence just like in GB. so why not just operate stars under GO bet?? what is the government going to do? take them to court over paying tax?? Stars need to man up. but when has stars ever been about the actual players and not their bottom line? If anyone from stars on here read this come and reply, I welcome it...……..

Their current license is for offering sports betting not poker - it's not for all forms of gambling like they cant randomly start having online slots at beteasy.com.au (their sportsbook) without government approval

The issue is that there is no current mechanism through which any company get get a license to offer online poker specifically in Australia (no idea re btc sites its probably a grey area, but none of them are based here anyway and people can obv play on them with no issue)

Obviously the plan is to fix that, and introduce legislation that allows sites to get a license/pay their taxes/offer online poker to australians etc at which point all the reputable sites will return to the market and aussie startups could compete with them if they wanted (crownpoker or starpoker maybe)

At this point we wait, Joey has more info than us that he can't share, that's okay, yeah it kind of sucks that we don't know if we'll get poker back before the election or not and if not we may have to wait years or start lobbying all over with Labor, but that's just the way it is atm, it's promising that the government and enough of the crossbench are on board with the idea in principle, and we're here ready to noise if they think that will help our cause

Just want to say that I found online poker when it blew up on Twitch.tv, I'm a casual fish that loved depositing $20-50 a week to play in a couple tournaments on the weekend and I've been following this thread for what feels like forever now.

I don't drink/smoke/gamble of any other variety and I legitimately enjoyed playing poker when I found out how deep the rabbit hole went and the skill required to win. Because I was playing for fun though I found that only Stars really had the capacity to keep me entertained and always be firing stuff for me to join, and I personally thought they had the best UI of all the poker sites I tried.

I appreciate what you guys do and hope that I can go back to losing my money to all of you soon enough.
