I don’t believe Crown are indifferent. Crown Resorts clearly don’t want online poker.

Crownbet made a submission to the IGAB2016 review supporting the banning of all off-shore gambling sites. I would think that Crown Casino management would know about the submission and Crown Resorts lawyers and senior management would have had to approve the submission. The Casinos didn’t donate millions to the political parties for nothing.

When you talk to the crown casino employees they’re just telling you what crown management what them to say. Crown Casino don’t want to rock the boat with poker players. Crown Casino management probably believe it will be good for them as well, if online poker is banned. All the online players will now have to play at Crown.

Personally I think we should all be contacting the Australian casinos and asking them what their view is of online poker and inform them why it’s to their benefit to support online poker. https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/general/contact-us

We need to update OP so this sort of post stops happening

TL;DR submissions need to be made by July 21 for a September 14 hearing that will determine whether online poker gets banned in Australia. We won't know until Sep 14 whether online poker is getting banned in Australia or not until that date (incidentally my birthday is Sep 14, I know what I want as my present this year)

For instructions on how to make a submission see my previous post and Joey's in the last couple pages of this thread. My submission's almost done content wise but need to edit it a pile and then get some feedback from people first

How is everyone going with their submissions?

We have less than three weeks to go. If you haven't done one yet it is time to get started.

We need as many people to make submissions as possible. Tell people in your network that you are making a submission and encourage them to do the same!

Now or Never

Hey Joey, can we expect an official post from the AOPA some time soon? I want to get all the poker twitch streamers on board, so they can let there Aussie viewers know. It would be great if they could be directed to a specific link with all the relevant info.

One more question if you dont mind:

Australia is trying to BAN online poker? Is it not a segregate thing like Italy, France etc? Is it a BAN?

I thought Australia was a free country

I live in a 3rd world country, very poor country but this kind of thing is unthinkable to be made here, actually we have no respect for government and their laws

What is happening? Aussies are slaves of the government?

lol what a joke

I think our submissions should also focus around the civil liberties aspect of having the right to play online poker, as its an important aspect of the debate imo. Its ironic as usual that its the conservative government which always rails against 'big government' is the one which will remove our freedom to play online poker.

This could perhaps reflect that for many of us this is a rewarding hobby and has benefitted our and their lives and many ways beyond just the $. And also that it can be integrated into (for example) family life without being disruptive (like being out all night at a casino). It also adds some weight if the reader thinks all poker players are deluded degens. Thoughts?
Re-asking this question as I didn't get a response. Think about it, if we all get one or more people we know well to support with their view we could double the number of submissions. I'm planning to do this, unless someone comes up with a good reason not to.

It isn't so much them but the support they need from Xenophon to get other legislation passed that they really care about.

If you ask any Coalition MP, most of them will be indifferent to the amendments to the IGA as they will see them as fairly inoffensive anti-gambling reforms that won't affect their base but at the same time it will show Xenophon that they are onside.

Politically it is a sound move but obviously if we base it on their political values and ideologies as a party it doesn't make much sense.

Yes absolutely this is a good idea.

It is important to get submissions from people who don't play.

If someone you believed was a slot machine addict told you that there was no issue with slot machines you wouldn't believe them.

If one of their loved ones told you then you might see things differently.

You have to remember, we know we are all sane, relatively intelligent group of people. It is not unreasonable to assume that some people just see us as gambling addicts in denial.

Anyone you can get to make the point is encouraged to do so.

Your significant other/parent/ co-worker is a great example.

Something came out yesterday or are you referring to an actual submission. I have blocked out some time on Saturday and am hoping I can write the AOPA response then.

Hey Joey

My name is Pav and I run a Twitch Poker stream 5-6 days a week. I hold somewhere between 200-500 concurrent viewers during each stream and you find me here: https://www.twitch.tv/allinpav

I haven't submitted my own piece yet (still working on it), but I have started reaching out to my viewers about submissions. If there's anything you want to promote as a banner on my stream or any ideas you might have, don't hesitate to use me as a resource. I'm willing to put something up ASAP!

I'll be refreshing this thread tomorrow for updates. You can also catch me on Twitter here: https://twitter.com/ALLinPav

Great work as usual, mate. Talk soon.

It's a good idea to get pro-online poker submissions from non players as long as they know a player or even if they want to take the 'as a concerned taxpayer I think the government should regulate online poker due to the potential revenue stream' angle and/or civil liberties arguments

Ideally all the information you sent out in the email but as a post on the AOPA website. That way I can direct people who haven't signed up to the newsletter to what they need to do.
