Reid FEC = Reid Federal Electoral Conference.
The 150 'seats' that make up the House of Representatives are actually called Federal Electoral Conferences. Political parties are generally divided up into these areas.
The meeting last night was a meeting for all party members who live in that area. As a group we last night told the party that we support online poker being allowed in Australia.
This means
- The Prime Minister and Ministers will be informed that this portion of the party feels this way
- The Party Executive will be told that this portion of the party feels that way
- The MP that represents our area will know that this is the view of the people who elected him
- We can now show cause as to why this needs to be debated on a whole party level as members of the party believe that the party should support this measure.
It is actually more powerful than just 1/150th of the party. The Liberal Party only holds 76 seats in government so this is 1/76 of those seats and give the MP the opportunity to tell the party room that this is how the area voted. It makes it clear that this isn't his personal opinion, it is the will of the people he represents.
In and of itself this is nothing major but it is a step along the way. The first debate we had was a branch, then we did it over a Federal Conference. From here we will move to get the entire state of NSW on board and from there we will go for changing the Federal Liberal Party policy.
P.S you are not a tard. The fact that I know a lot about politics and you know a little is really a bigger leak in my life than it is in yours... I need to get out more!
