Within 3 years there might be 3 casinos left.

So basically the only casino left on the far end of the boardwalk will be Resorts (which doesn't have a poker room)..

Revel, Showboat, the Taj, Trump Plaza and The Atlantic Club on the other end, all closed or closing by 2015..Pretty wild.

I would hope they were planning on revamping the area with some nicer, more modern casinos. But after seeing Revel go all out, spending $2.3+ billion on the intricate designs only to go busto within a few years, I guess I won't hold my breathe.

Even after all of that planning and $ that went in, a few minor issues (no smoking anywhere on the property, an escalator that went straight from the entrance to the hotel rooms without stopping on any gaming floors, a poker room on the top floor that takes forever to walk to without ever having a game running, etc) ended up costing them MAJOR profits and eventually the business .

I guess they (Revel) were doomed either way, though. Even if they were turning a decent profit by now, they'd be taking a HUGE hit loosing all of the foot-traffic from the Taj and S.B. after they both closed.

That's how it should be. AC has, and will always have, enough revenue to maintain several thriving casinos.

If they found the revenue to actually revamp the whole area, who knows? Could be the next Macau, maybe Vegas would eventually end up being the ugly-step child of gambling in the U.S..
10 years from now they could be the gambling capital of the U.S., or at least the east coast, if they found the $ (and did it right, not like Revel).

It's bad when people in NY or PA, who are right in between Foxwoods/Mohegan and A.C., always choose CT even though A.C. the ocean and many more entertainment/gambling options, especially for poker players.

Too much competition nearby and too darn dangerous and dirty outside the area of the casinos.

This is news from last week and there are already multiple threads on it.

This place used to have a great room. Huge limit games. But basically Borgata and the PA casinos came along and the Taj could not keep up with the times.

Place was a hellhole in recent years.

Macau is Macau because gambling isn't legal anywhere else in China or Hong Kong, not because it's a pretty destination. AC casinos are all going down the tubes due to local options in NY, CT, PA, DE, and MD. People would rather lose their money closer to home.

God I hated this place. Dirty rooms, dirty chips, dirty everything.. I used to go there during the poker boom because it was the only real place to play. Thank god Borgata stepped up.

How many casinos can a dieing or near dead city with the population around 100K hold? The two Niagara Falls have three casinos with about 8 million people within an 1 hour and half drive. One of the casinos really only gets locals with rare gambling junket tourist or more savy -ev gambler. The American casino only gets locals with the more savy Canadian gambler and Fallsview gets richer tourists and Toronto gamblers. Without Philly and NYC 2 hours away 3 casinos sounds about right to me.....

An open question though is how much business will be lost when there are only three casinos left - people like to visit gambling "destinations", which means variety. A street with only three casinos on it is going to turn off a lot of visitors.

Exactly, which will eventually lead to those "3 casinos" closing because the crowds and business just won't be there anymore.

You guys keep saying 3 casinos. It's more than that Caesars owns 3 buy itself (harrahs Caesars ballys). Then you got the trop, resorts, borgata and the nugget. If I'm not forgetting anyone that still leaves 7 operating casinos

I was in AC for my 1st gambling trip ever in 1987 with a fake ID and playing black jack all over with no problems. At that time the boardwalk was packed and the casino's were jamming. All the little side businesses on the boardwalk were open and that big mall was open.

The next time I went back was December of 2008 only because my dad had free airfare for 2 and 3 nights at Harrahs from Florida. There was a big difference. The boardwalk was all ran down, shops closed, mall closed(if was open it looked closed). Casinos not really that full. Just overall pretty crappy except for Borgata which is awesome.

Now casinos are closing left and right. Kind of crazy.

On a side note. If I can find them I have some matchbooks that I used to collect from Showboat and Taj and Trump Plaza among others all collected in 1987. Maybe they might be worth something after they close down?
