There are definitely some sites Swedes play on that aren't listed. Has this been updated since your post?

I'll respond to a PM here just so others can see

- 888 haven't said anything explicitly, though in their H1 report they say "In other markets, more positive progress is anticipated with Sweden and the Netherlands both at various stages of regulating online gaming and 888 has a proven track record of launching in regulated markets and quickly growing market share" - and Sweden was highlighted in the investors call and slides, so i'm sure they are pursuing a license.

- Winamax I would not expect to apply for a license as Sweden has not signed the ES-FR-PT shared liquidity agreement. Winamax hasn't shown any interest in launching a separate player pool outside of their existing one.

Sorry, the headline is sensationalist.

There is frequently litigation in the EU over national gambling laws.

This one is interesting only because the EU is bitching that Sweden allows outside poker companies to compete against their national brand.

The article in the OP is some four years old. I don't think there was any sensationalist about it.

Who gives a **** about winamax, 888 and the likes. We have the best state-run pokersite of all time with half the rake compared to the competitors and winrates upwards 20bb / 100.

Don't feel too bad for us. Maybe it will hurt some mtt / spin-tards.

Sure, but at least it offers people to build a roll and move up. And 20bb at 5/10skr (equivalent of something between nl100 and nl200 dolares) is decent money playing part-time regardless.
No idea what the wr are at the equivalent of $5/10 or 10/20, but im sure they are fine compared to stars. At least for those brothers/coaches/friends playing on the same table all the time

I don't play poker anymore, i was just quoting someone from the swedish forum that REALLY knows his stuff. He is amazing!

As for my second statement, i think most people would find it odd that family members and close friends are sitting at the same table but i have no idea what is going on. If you didn't know them I'm sure you'd atleast find it mildly funny.

Wow, back for first time in yonks and a thread I was heavily involved in has been bumped :-)

I pay a lot less attention to these things now but amusingly the timeline I suggested has been confirmed. Sweden is opening up, this is good, it took years (bad).

Meanwhile in the past 4 years the European Commission has dropped it's proactive role on gambling and the UK has become far less relevant thanks to Brexit. In general though the prying open of the Swedish market for multiple participants vs a state monopoly remains on track.

just saw the fee is only $44k. Should be a nobrainer to apply for one just to keep whatever sportsbetters they got and so on but meh, who knows how they think. (winamax)

Too bad you lose your 5% or whatever rakeback. At Party, you will lose more, including some extra affiliate deals. Before Amaya, the drops were like from 40% to 30%.

Surely PokerStars will reduce rake for Swedish players to make up for the lost rakeback. Surely.

I know you're talking mostly in jest, but as it is going to be on shared international liquidity, it is not straightforward to decrease rake for one set of players.

It now seems the sites getting a license from Sweden are not allowed to offer any rakeback nor bonuses to Swedes. Bonuses and rakebacks offered for gambling banned by the license terms. How can they get a change to those terms? What if the sites offer a lower rake for Swedes (and to any similar country if exists) in the form of "rakeback?" Just giving it another name and definition.

as hood points out, and no, that wont happen lol. Bonuses and rakeback are just because they achieves goals in making customers come back collect/redeposit to finish their bonuses/logs in and sees rb came back tries to spin it up loses it redeposits to play some more rinse repeat. Achievements are just another thing of the same rewardsystem, and so on.

Lowering rake will achieve none of these things. none. If anything raising the rake is the future of poker. Gamblers/addicts/Degens/net deposit losers wont care, only regs will.

This is wrong, however casino sites wont be allowed to give out bonuses, just a first deposit bonus. For example Unibet will contiue paying out their regular rakeback.

Stars wont be offering their rakeback but i am quite sure that has more to do with them having to pay 18% tax for swedish players than anything else. They need to get those 18% somewhere.

Also if you want to play somewhere with low rake and no rakeback the only place for us Swedes is Svenska Spel.
