GG was operating already in the Netherlands but they were hiding the country of players from there by using other countries so as far as the Dutch regulator was concerned, they didn't have a presence there and got a license. You could see on the GG discord at the time the number of players asking if they got to keep their account and if their flag would changer or not, probably one reason they shut the discord down.
Ah ok, I thought Norway now also banned pokerstars but not GG. I guess I am mistaken.
I am from the Netherlands, so I spoke from my own experience.
I always did feel weird to me that GGpoker got their license fairly easy and more reputable pokersites like Stars, 888 and Betsson never got them.
I alwats did wonder if some under the table dealing were done with the Dutch Gambling Authority. But I guess it is just failure of Dutch Gambling authority, probably Stars and 888 etc have to pay back copious amounts of money to operate again in Netherlands for illegally offering poker to Dutch players, while GGpoker acts like they never did and somehow gets away hiding it.
