Do you ever think, somewhere in the back of your mind, that running good/bad is related to morality, karma, life outside poker?

Do you feel as though poker players are naturally superstitious, or does the game just make them this way?

They are not superstitious enough and don't have enough fear of karma.

In fact i think a lot of poker players should be reminded of how much they owe to luck a bit more.

I wouldn’t called it weird, more positive psychology. See every situation with a little positive.

I know superstitions are stupid, but I do tend to remember hats I wore for big winning sessions.

But that's not really superstition, it's science I guess?

I have never ever in my life time to complain or blame a dealer. Ever. Instead there is dealer at the local casino that I go to that I have never won a single hand with. I finally learned and now every time it is her rotation to the 2-3-5 NL tables, I just simply missed blinds and come back 20 minutes later and post blinds until she got up to go to another table. I think she knows too but I probably lost a few thousands with her dealing, no lies. I still tip and talk to her off the tables, but just simply can't win with her dealing.

human beings are multifaceted, lots of pockets and compartments in the personality ... that Jack Nicklaus carried a buckeye in his pocket for luck does not mean he was really relying on that to win, or was even superstitious at all, but just having fun with it. I have a thing with the combination of hat, watch and jacket I wear to play.

In an old sci-fi book, "Earth Abides", the hero (one of the few survivors of a world wide plague), in his old age, thinks for a minute about the superstition that has crept into the world of the generations after him.

Specifically, one hunter-warrior out looking for deer with a bow and arrow, says that his "lucky bow" has an inlaid shell deer image set in the side of the bow.

The Hero still wants to speak scientifically, despite the retrograde path of what remains of civilization, but stifles the impulse. He says to himself "it's a harmless superstition, and if it gives him comfort and confidence, he will shoot more accurately than if he had to use a bow that wasn't his "lucky bow". And so he says nothing.

If it provides comfort and confidence, who are we scientists to say it doesn't work?

Men come and go, but Earth Abides.

I know its real cause I've seen somebody win a good bit then leave. Every old fart at the table will start fighting to get that lucky chair

This "want" caused me and others to change our play and we started losing because of it and, not realizing, we blamed the cashout curse.
Interesting. Totally buy this, as it's not that different from someone losing a huge pot, getting tilted, then trying too hard to chase that money in an effort to get back to even.

I used to have a belief that winning a huge pot was bad luck: that it meant I would get hosed in the next hand – as if the poker gods did not want you to win back-to-back monster hands. (The rigtards even claimed that this was part of some massive conspiracy on the part of the sites.) In reality, it was probably a situation of having jumped ahead and feeling like I had "free money" to burn, then accordingly, playing a bit more carelessly.

Yeah. The slightest thing can screw up one's decision making. Probably same for the rest of life's decisions.

Probably a low key troll question, but here's a semi serious answer.
Superstition is just a trigger that makes you either play differently or remember beats or wins more clearly.

I heard once that fifty dollar bills are unlucky at the poker table. Since then, I've avoided 50's. When I see someone buy in with 50's I just know they will lose. I given a $50 at the cashier I will ask for smaller bills.

Recently played a bounty tournament where the bounties were $50. I accumulated 6 bounties and as I collected my 4th place prize money and bounties they paid the bounties with $50 bills.

To get rid of them I fed them into a $5 slot machine with the intention of cashing out and redeeming the ticket at a kiosk. I thought I might as well risk a little bit and played a few pulls. Hit a $250 win and within a few pulls I was up $350.

Cashed out and exchanged my voucher for "lucky" $100's and $20's.
