this is not an NVG topic but when Josem posts number 2 we have to leave it. In case anyone was wondering.

OP, stop with your dumbass thinking and get your **** together just like post number 2 suggested.

This is a public service announcement.

No matter what you think your poker skill will accomplish, you should finish your degree. This will show that you are actually capable of completing a difficult task of which you are not particularly fond.

This is a life skill, you will need it.

OP, you're not in a weird spot at all. You have no reason whatsoever to think you're good enough to even consider going pro. There is absolutely no dilemma. The truth is that the vast majority of people who already play for a living aren't even close to smart enough to sustain it long term, and some of them have decent results (often more variance than they could ever imagine) and are way ahead of a beginner with a dream like you. Play for fun and get a proper job after university. It's not 2006 anymore.

Nope. Weird spot is (as a first time poster) OP posted a plea for advice and has not returned to the thread to post addition comments...or even a "thank you for the advice".

Weird as that has never happened at 2+2 before.

I was going to post something like this but you did so well it’s probably best you got in first

I got 3-1 OP takes in all this excellent advice in horror/disappointment and does something stupid anyway

I think some people just like the IDEA of being a “pro poker player.” Not having a regular boring job, not having to wake up early, and there is a certain amount of bragging to other players and friends that you are a “pro poker player.” Plus, it has that Doc Holiday type cool factor. Until you actually do it and realize it sucks balls and makes the game a lot less fun to play.

you cant go pro , its literally why you had to make this thread. if you could you would but you didnt , so that means you cant. your parents cant talk **** if your making money but your not. so that means your losing. now your asking should a losing poker player quit school and work to play full time. well you should be able to answer that on your own.

ive only taken stabs at playing full time , it truely is a mother ****er. i made it ( 6 months) not just trouble beating certian games but for me even winners tilt became a thing. then bills , then stress on top of that while you go through downswings , watch your roll disappear while still forking out dough for bills. i always say keep trying but this is a common question that doesnt even need to be asked. you dont play poker to squeak by you do it to make alot of money and it wont even be a question when if it does happen.

Dont do it, even pros struggle working there way up from from the micros, if this was 2007-2012 and you were printing money id say go for it, but its not, its 2018 and poker is hard man. Almost everyone knows how to play basic strategy, you will be making the biggest mistake of your life

With grammar like that, it's obvious that you don't really care for school, so go pro. You need at least 50k. What's your bankroll at?

would you ask advice on dealing drugs or prostitution as a career just because you like drugs or sex and don't want to have a real job?

Hey man, I was in this exact situation ~18 months ago. I was in college, not happy with my classes or major, unsure of what I wanted to do besides poker, and my family was telling me the same stuff. I decided to drop out and "go pro"

I've been fairly successful in poker, but I still think a lot about either going back to school or looking for work outside of poker that I'm passionate about. Almost anyone who's played poker for a living leaves the game for other work at some point, for a variety of reasons. The point is, playing poker for a living usually isn't fulfilling for most people long term, so dropping out of school for poker doesn't solve your problem. If you don't like what you're studying find something different. Try taking a bunch of different classes outside of your major that look interesting.

Also, it's been said before but definitely worth repeating: poker is not as fun when it's a job. Everyone told me this, but of course I didn't believe it either. It's not that poker suddenly becomes boring, it's that it becomes your entire life. It's less exciting and more routine. You don't look forward to it in the same way.

I don't mean to discourage you from playing or pursuing poker seriously. I'm just encouraging you to think about where you want to be in 10, 20, 40 years from now and what options you want for yourself. You have a lot more opportunities in life with a degree, even if you decide to play poker for 10 years before using it. Gl whatever you end up doing

eta: just checked and op hasn't logged in since posting the thread. lol

sigh, another one of these?

If you have to ask then the answer is get a "real job". But find something you like. No reason you can't find something else that you are good at or enjoy and can make a living at.

Do not go pro by any means, Poker is dying at its currently state, the games are not beatable anymore because the pokersites made sure to increase rake to a point where everyone is losing.

Poker is just a waste of time now.

bud, it took me 3 years of learning to beat PLO without reading ****. if you plan on crushing NLHE 6 max, you need to constantly study. you can never stop learning. going pro isnt a smart idea for most people. not to mention, to be a MTT pro in vegas, you need abundance of skill plus a horse shoe ****ting ass. your english skills scare me for your roll. if you can beat 2 4 and 3 6 online, you can play 10-20 in vegas. but beating 2 4 and 3 6 online 6 max is near impossible if you dont commit every non-playing moment to studying and developing some sort of system for how you play normally.. but you need a 200k hand history on a hud before you can even get an understanding of how you play. im taking 80k to vegas not with the idea ill leave rich.. just that ill donk a bracelet and die a happy death. lol

look at all of the 1 2 guys on stars. they play abc poker and end up making minimum wage.. but minimum wage in most european countries is a lot of money, i guess
