What were Stuey's results in the World Series of Poker (Main Event obviously)? It seems like the internet gives a very fragmented history of his Main Event results, and it leads a lot of people to think he only played in it 4 or 5 times and won it 3 times, but I highly doubt that, and I would guess he played in it virtually every year from 1980 to 1997, and just didn't do well in it for 13 or 14 years. Does anyone know his results? I'm also interested in knowing every reputable pro's results in the WSOP over their entire careers. You might think it's useless, but I think there are interesting patterns that you can draw out with this data in front of you.
I never understand why someone spends 10 minutes to type a question, when they could google it and have an answer in 2 minutes.

In fairness, the OP doesn't seem to be asking about his winnings alone (which Hendon Mob provides), but also for some info on his winnings vs. buy-ins, etc. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's what I inferred from the following:

"...leads a lot of people to think he only played in it 4 or 5 times and won it 3 times, but I highly doubt that, and I would guess he played in it virtually every year from 1980 to 1997, and just didn't do well in it for 13 or 14 years."

I thought Tom Dwan lost his money already.

I may be wrong but im sure I read somewhere he didn't play as much in the 90's due to his drug problems. although that may not have included wsops. think he would just vanish to the seedy side of vegas for long periods of time.

its funny how serious people get when debating things that will never be answered. much like MJ vs Lebron or any hall of fame players from back in the day in any sport compared to players/teams of today

Does anyone really think LeBron > MJ?

Yes.*
Defenses are far more intense over longer periods of time and for the duration of the season today than in MJ's day which result in more of a physical demand on LeBron to maintain his greatness. Of course, LeBron has PEDs that Jordon does not so that it probably evens out.

*Gambled in the Atlantis with MJ and he could not have been a ruder person to staff and those not in his group. LeBron, by all accounts, is an all-around good guy.

Yeah no doubt he busted outside of the money in the WSOP's not mentioned on his player profile. There's no way he sat out 12 or so, when he had won it twice in the early 80's and was an action junkie. I'm an action junkie and you don't care about money, you just want to play every major tourney that you can responsibly get staked for.

This sounds about right.

Somewhere, someone who has read One Of A Kind can confirm/correct this.

This NYT article from a decade ago includes One of a Kind co-author Nolan Dalla referring to Ungar winning “10 out of the 30 major events he entered,” a probably unconfirmable stat that has been repeated a lot by others over the years.

Skimming back through, One of a Kind describes him playing in the WSOP every year from 1980-1984, then again in 1990 (the year he played the first two days of the ME then spent the rest in a hospital while his stack finished 9th), then again in 1996 and 1997. Has cashes as well in WSOP events in 1986, 1987, 1991, and 1995.

Looking through Stuey's stats I realized how much I miss the SuperBowl of Poker, the GrandPrix of Poker, the Triple Crown of Poker, the America's Cup of Poker and the World Match Play of Poker.

That said as much as I miss those events it pales in comparison to how much I long for a MLS Cup of Poker.

OP, read this book: http://www.amazon.com/One-Kind-World.../dp/074347659X

It will give you great insight into why Stu basically disappeared from poker for quite a few years. It wasn't that he didn't have any results from 1981 to 1997.

He was the best ever! (at being a crackhead and a cheat)

I guess you tards are among the group who think he just happened to wear cobalt blue glasses at the '97 world series. Do some research before you idolize some cheating, scumbag crackhead.

Interesting first post.

What research should we do that shows the cobalt blue glasses were a cheating device? Was ESPN in on it?

I wouldn't be surprised if he had cheated, but I think it was probably done with signals with other players and some inside dealers.

From the DOC. Billy baxter had considered himself to be a top gin player, (I forget who invited Stu to play him) but he was so short at the time he had to sit on a soda crate, at the end of the night Billy was stuck $50,000.00 and that was the first time he had been introduced to the KID.

On second thought, I think Ungar is a little overrated. Comparing poker NOW where even a reasonable buy-in ($50+) online tournament is more competitive than the WSOP was in the 80's, the fact that Stuey doesn't have about 6 or 7 final tables and cashes every year from 1981-97 in a much weaker field tells me he is on par with the great aggro players of today, but would not be dominant and would probably only cash high in the money (Top 200 I'll say) once every 5 years at the modern WSOP because of all the entrants and the heightened level of competition.
