...or you could just avoid the douche. I'd avoid just so I don't have another tard begging me for money. The world has enough degenerates that go around begging for money, Ali doesn't need some high stakes pan handler.

At this point that's what Eli seems to be known for, he should just change his book's name to that! "HIGH STAKES PAN HANDLER" It's a best seller!

I think Ali Nejad is a genuinely kind and sweet person. Using his essence in the face of evil is kind of cool.

Sorry 2+2, I like Mason, I like the moderators of this site. But I absolutely despise POS in the poker community. I will not buy Eli's book and I hope no one else does.

And to the few itt that mentioned they wanted to read this book, find ways to read the book without lining the pockets of this POS.

Hi Dreams:

The following is from my statement, Post #124, in the New Elezra Book Thread. You can find it here:

As far as book sales, they are, in my opinion, now ruined, and my estimate is that 2+2 will lose at least $18,000 on this project, plus several hundred hours that I spent on it are now also wasted. In addition, there are two other authors plus a translator who worked diligently on this project. Their time and effort should now be ruined as well.
In addition, I told Eli before we started this project that we didn't think that sales would be that good anyway. So those of you who think that Eli was going to line his pockets from his royalty were never right in the first place, and are certainly wrong now.

Best wishes,
Mason

Yes. On a typical book I do all the editing (and this includes strategy as well as how the book is written), all the type-setting, proof reading, work with the digital graphics department at our printer for cover design and artwork throughout the book, consult with David Sklansky as well as the author(s) relative to strategy (and this can require trips out of Las Vegas to meet with the author(s), review the final proofs, spend time talking to the authors concerning rewrites if necessary, do press checks, binding checks, and what ever else is required.

A lot of work goes into our books, and as far as I can tell, no other publisher in our field comes close to all the work that we do.

Best wishes,
Mason

Should have done a little more research before pulling the trigger on this book deal.

I think 2+2 should have made a poll on relevance as well as credibility of of the subject of a new book. Eli even without all this scammer BS is just a memory to me. Seems to have no relevance in a post BF poker world. That's not even touching hustles he plays on people.

Seems like Mason and the rest of 2+2 might have avoid a lot of resources. As it is that just plain sucks for the people behind the scenes of the publishing side tho.

I respect all the work you do to put together a good product. I think you said earlier that some big names in the poker community vouched for Eli. Serious question… Is that the extent of your determining an author’s credibility, or do you do any fact-checking or research beyond that? Will this whole episode change how you go about this in the future?

I recognize that doing fact-checking can be a pretty daunting task, but given other posts in NVG about Eli owing money, it does seem like that would have been an area worth researching.

We’re mainly a strategy book publisher and I don’t think we’ll be doing this type of book ever again. The real shame of all of this is that Pulling the Trigger is quite interesting and that’s our main reason for publishing.

Fortunately, 2+2 has been such a successful company that we can afford to produce a few books that at best will only be slightly profitable, and this book was supposed to be one of those, and this was explained to the author before we sent him a contract.

Good response Mason and fair play to all parties involved in this debacle (except Elezra for being naive enough this would go over smoothly). I've always appreciated that 2+2 publishing holds a high moral ground with regard to what is and what is not published, and its understandable this one may have slipped by. On another note, Real Poker Psychology was a great read and many concepts still stick in my mind today for the optimal approach in handling variance. Mainly finding humor in both bad beats and ridiculous statistical outliers that are bound to occur at some point. If someone struggles seriously with tilt and keeping their cool I highly recommend Mason Malmuths book.

Okay real quickly - back to the villain in question. Personally never met Eli Elezra, but just the whole aurora about him being some business man was always met with skepticism (probably not only person that felt this way) and in general someone that seemed very untrustworthy - although hindsight is clearly 20/20 and sometimes its hard to exactly pinpoint the extent of ones shady history without the cold hard facts.
