When Eli said in his statement he’s given 2 million in loans, he actually meant He borrowed 2 million, Eli doesn’t come across as the giving type, just the taking

For some reason I had it in my head Abe was a businessman turned player.

If he's that good, he's probably loaning Eli $1M just hoping to support the big game and win some of it back, right? Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just clarifying.

In Eli's defense the amount of money being thrown around during Full Tilts hey day was so silly that a $1M debt probably seemed relatively normal. Black Friday hits and their world is no longer anything like it was.

Who knows which other poker pros owe each other serious sums here and there. This is the case in the spotlight right now but there's obviously loads more that we'll never hear about, or maybe we will.

Abe said it was a loan not gambling debt, I guess he could use the money and lose it at Bobby’s room, but he also had lawsuits etc so who knows

Money is fungible. Unless Eli stopped playing obviously the loan went onto the table.

since I first starte dposting in 07 i was baffled and in awe my high school self was when I heard ppoker players would just let people borrow 1m, 200k 500k like it was nothing, people that they really didnt even know.

amazed it still goes on, I know you all are gonna crucify me with this statement and think im narrow minded and results oriented, which im not but

why the **** are poker pros so willing to loan out people outside their circle? liek what the ****, I said the same think during the boom.

I think deeb said something along the lines of “ these ppl can come across very charming and sincere, with many good reasons of why don’t have the money and how will pay back etc”.

It’s easy to look back and say it’s stupid but Eli was considered business man with like a 7 million dollar house, playing in 500k cash games, i don’t think it’s crazy at the time to think he wasn’t good for it

On top he was able to keep all these debts private which makes it easier to borrow off others , when ppl don’t know he owes others

This ama really was a poor choice for Eli

but like i get borrowing from banks to build your real estate fortunes and whtnot, im sure we all know someone who is killing it with realestate thast keeps borrowing from banks to continue to grow.

but like in ezras positio, he asks me for 500k, in his prime when hes on tv and whatnot, why the **** would he need 500k? he has FTP money and also other lendors by his side. I wouldnt owe him a dime

people saying " he would be good for it, youre an idiot since he was one of the faces of poker" exactly the reason i wouldnt.

if it was my brother/sister or freind SINCE grade school, thats different, even if they end up stiffing you. but for someone outside your circle? it just sounds dumb. and the part thats really hilarious is im sure eli and e dog were getting bad reps and peopel STILL kept letting them borrow form them. yikes

Usually the reason is , getting access to large amounts of money to stay in the game,

I don’t even know if my bank would let me withdraw more then 1k

Next time your at casino try to take out 20k never mind 200-500k

Think about it

And they are playing together everyday, it’s not like a hit and run where Eli just disappeared

Crazy thread, am I the only one who had this vibe about Eli even all the way back in the High Stakes Poker days?

The way he would dish up Doyle a plate of food or how he would try to flatter people, seemed like he was always working some sort of confidence game.

Gambling addiction is one hell of a disease, can you only imagine the high someone like he gets for playing in games and swinging millions of dollars on a nightly basis. Pretty much impossible for him to ever give that up even if he wanted to.

Slightly off the main topic, but it still astonishes me that gambling addiction isn't classified as one of the worst addictions. When people typically think of addicts, they think of drug abusers. I think gambling addiction might actually be the worst/second worst addiction...as it can totally **** up your entire life (drugs might be the worst because it also physically impacts your health).

Also, as already stated in this thread, just don't ****ing loan money to people guys. It's ruined so many close friendships of mine over the years, and that Shakespeare quote is spot on.

For reference, the Shakespeare quote: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be."
