Obviously they should have hired some private investigators. That would have cleared it all up.

On another note, Real Poker Psychology was a great read and many concepts still stick in my mind today for the optimal approach in handling variance. Mainly finding humor in both bad beats and ridiculous statistical outliers that are bound to occur at some point. If someone struggles seriously with tilt and keeping their cool I highly recommend Mason Malmuths book.

Okay real quickly - back to the villain in question. Personally never met Eli Elezra, but just the whole aurora about him being some business man was always met with skepticism (probably not only person that felt this way) and in general someone that seemed very untrustworthy - although hindsight is clearly 20/20 and sometimes its hard to exactly pinpoint the extent of ones shady history without the cold hard facts.
Thanks for this tip. This is my biggest issue as I get older when playing so I will read this book.

Ya **** on that poster when the decision to be in business with Eli Elezra is like hiring a dope fiend and getting mad when the lil ****er runs off with anything valuable to go pawn it. 2+2 has known Eli was a ****ing douche for like a decade now and the heads of 2+2 got into business with the guy.

You're post was written sarcastically but really you meant it literally, you just didn't know it.

Would “No ****, Sherlock” have been more succinct for you? The guy shows up after a 20-car pileup and says “Gosh, somebody should have been more careful.”

Frankly the only lesson from these threads is never get involved with anybody involved with poker because it will devolve into a complete clusterclownshow.

Some kind of weird rant:

Sir Huntington, I certainly hope your response isn't a petty reaction due to previous bans
handed out to you in NVG.

Pretty good article. Apparently Abe was multi accounting on ftp? I didn’t remember reading that anywhere before this article.

The statement in this article that I insisted on the AMA is flat out wrong. It was made clear to Eli on several occasions that the AMA was voluntary and that he would be asked questions he might not like, and this included about borrowing money since the Shaun Deeb stuff was already out there. Also, us telling Eli that the AMA was voluntary was last told to him a few minutes before it went up by both Mat Sklansky and myself when Eli came to our office to start the AMA.

Hi what:

That may be the case and we have certainly been punished for it, but I have little confidence in anything that this author writes.

Best wishes,
Mason

Ignorance of what? That a career high-stakes poker player might have some outstanding debts and/or loans? Shocking news.

Should be totally irrelevant to whether Mason publishes a life's memoir book.

This whole thing was a lynch mob derail that spiraled way out of control. Yes, Eli owes money, maybe lots of it, so what, should have nothing to do with Mason, 2+2, or publishing a memoir book.

Have they edited the article since you posted? As it stands now they clearly state that this is just what Elezra claims. pretty believable that he would claim this whether its true or not

Which is what I said?

Hi Stupor:

Well, he hasn't said this anyplace else that I know of. So, even though I wasn't there, I doubt that this was said at all.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hmm.
He’s presented with the obvious question: with all those skeletons in the closet why do an AMA? He can either be honest and say despite advice, he wanted to push the book and thought he could handle the AMA – a terrible decision for him as it transpired. Or he can deflect responsibility for that bad decision by saying something like “I didn’t want to do it…the publishers made me”. Given his moral character I can def see him wanting to deflect the blame for his own bad decision.

That seems much more likely to me than the interviewer flat out lying about it. I don’t know anything about her though...

I'm actually surprised the book didn't do better with all the attention. I think it probably just made no difference. I sincerely doubt it would have sold much better if the debt dead-beating hadn't been revealed and the AMA had gone smoothly.

The funny thing is that it was one of his smallest debts that called him out and caused the whole thing to come crashing down. Be careful who you screw over in life.

Agree. Honestly, I don't think many people even know who Eli is. Not talking about the scandals and whatnot. In general, how many people actually know or actually think Eli is a good enough poker player that they would want to actually read a book about him or his stories.

In an average poker room, I'd say about 5-10% people even heard of Eli. Let's just say he is not DNegs, Hellmuth, Ivey, Doyle, Johnny Chan...you get the idea.

So it is not a surprise that the book is going to flop. Even before the scandals came out.

imho
