I think this comment highlights the issue. There are many players who think like this which is totally understandable but it is equally understandable that some people like to treat it like a chess match, trying to play their best strategy and to do that, they need more time thinking.

I enjoy both aspects of poker but would prefer to be either playing really fast or taking my time, not a mixture of the two.

Sure, we all appreciate those moments when players have all the time in the world to tank and come up with great plays but it would be cool to see which players could excel in this more intuitive and raw form of poker.

How to do it? In cash games it could be for example that the ones who are tanking longer, pay bigger share of the rake.

I think many of the amateurs have very good raw instincts for the game and they could do better in these and enjoy them more.
Streamed tournament games with 10-15 second shot clocks would legitimately be super entertaining. It would unfortunately also shrink the winning player pool as all the top pros would crush even more so than they do now. I firmly believe being allowed to tank let's worse players catch up and good but nitty players get stuck in analysis paralysis.

If Martin kabril or vogelsang are in the tournament I don't even bother putting it on. Players like that are seriously poison for pokers popularity.

At the same time, nobody in chess takes a minute to play 1. e4 or other spots where there's only one move to make the same way many players take forever to fold 62o pre

When i played a live 550€ MTT on day 2 with about 3 tables left, one guy on about 30bb tanked every hand pre, being first to act.
When he did it the third time in a row for more than half a minute after i got to this table, i decided to call the clock on him after 5 seconds on the fourth hand, cause nobody else needed more than 5 seconds pre.
That idiot went on an insane rant, asking if im serious etc, putting on a huge shitshow, wasting even more time... He folds after another half a minute, again...

Next hand, i stare at him right when its his turn, same as most other players, and he actually managed to shove his 30bb from utg within roughly 15 seconds...
With QJo, and got busted by KK in mp. I had to smile when he looked at me before leaving the table.

Passing thought about the Chess v Poker comparisons ..

Can we consider Chess a game of 'complete' information whereas we all know Poker is 'incomplete'?

In Chess, if a piece is in jeopardy you deal with it, eh? Whereas in Poker we have many more options to consider in reaction to an additional 7x opponents who will be implementing various strategies from hand to hand.

It's not just 'what' we do in Poker, it's also 'how' we do it. You can suggest that if all decisions need to be quick that we aren't narrowing our range any differently than if we 'tank' make the same decisions. The issue is that there are decisions in Poker that require some thought .. and if we 'go into the tank' we are automatically narrowing our range.

We like to think that we prepare for future streets in Poker, but I believe that forward thinking is much more straight forward in Chess than Poker.

Obv no games are the same and the Chess comparison is fair. But I also need to make sure we give credit to Poker for perhaps being more complex due to 'variables' of the human mind and not a fixed set of movements for each piece that are all out in the open. GL
