Interesting (the simulations) but i think worth noting that the number of hands that get split (which is obviously not the same as it would be if all players went to showdown) is not as important in determining rake as the average pot size (which will be higher because of the nature of split pot games with mixed equity. petty semantics sort of).

In that respect the average pot is significantly larger than equivalent stakes of nl hold em in smaller stake tables like $100nl (something to the tune of 5x as large when you scroll through hand histories. Meaning 5x the rake. That would probably be a huge mark against it's viability for grinding if it was 'normal' but i think people are playing way too fast and loose even after accounting for how much looser this game structure should play. There aren't really enough tables running to justify putting any serious time/effort in at this point though.

Not that it matter me much, but that percentage does not really tell anything. In poker you take a lot of pots without showdown. In this game I think the concern is the large split pots you like to avoid for rake purposes. It would be interesting to learn how often that happens in % of hands.

The large split pots are part of how you make money in split pot games. You just have to work at avoiding them being heads up.

One of the money-making spots in this game should be when you have two opponents who are sharing the same straight or full house on one board while you take the other side. Making a flush should go up in value because you have a greater opportunity to demibluff on the river.

Absolutely the strategy should be to catch a third player paying full price to draw for half the pot.

In Omaha 8b this is easier since the nuts are out more often. In holdem, i suppose you would have to decide what nutty value you will go with, and what draws to dump that can only win half. I agree it should be played pot-limit also.

hopefully this leads to a double board omaha and some other fun poker variants like baducey, badacey, crazy pineapple, etc

Scooped more than a fair share of pots, with JJ hitting top set on top board and holding on bottom, actually scooped one with 99 facing a complete bluff.

There's more to this than meats the eye, range building to scoop is something new, and interesting to me anyway

Split Hold'em has been removed from the lobby. Guess we'll be seeing more temporary offerings like Split Hold'em this year.

I did like split holdem, but only if I could buy for 80-100 bb; capping the buy in as low as they did was a travesty.

agreed, was a fun game and i liked everyone buying in for same amount too but should be 80bb minimum imo

could be very interesting if they decide to rotate these new variants throughout the year

There's no need for them to rotate formats, as it takes them rather little time to design a new one. As soon as a format turns out too unbalanced in regs' favour, Stars will quickly replace it with another, yet unstudied one. I conjecture this because it fits into the same ideology as Stars' intention to change the rules of Power Up once in a while.

I might be wrong, but even in PLO it seems like people are playing slightly tighter pre with 2 boards.

Split board PLO would have less split pots, ironically.
d stars wins. Not to mention what a real-time-software can do to this game lol..

PLO would have actual game play.
