Pokerstars increases the rake of MTTs with a buyin under 22$ and decreases he rake of "Time" tournaments of all buyin levels.

https://www.pokerstarsblog.com/en/bl...e-171408.shtml

Changes will take effect next Monday.

The rake in tournies under 22$ is currently 10% except some SNGMTTs where rake is lower.

This is actually better, because if these MTTs pay out less money, pros won't want to play in them.

Very good changes. Becouse when u pay more rake, you actually get more in rakeback! More is better!

Being serious for a moment, much fuss has been made about Daniels "more rake is better" comments. He generally has explained this away by nitpicking semantics and emphasizing that it was a purely hypothetical scenario. Fine.

But here's another statement he made that doesn't get talked about much. A real life scenario in which rake was lowered at microstakes, and supposedly didn't work. They had to raise the rake for the health of the ecosystem!

And the funny part is that you won't even notice since they buried the rake amount in the tournament lobby. This was so expected to happen.

It is definitely their right to do what they want with their business, but Pokerstars has gone from being a well-respected #1 site to some money grab operation. Obviously that won't stop them from remaining #1 because of some other factors (recreationals don't care about the increased rake, great software/support/game-security).

Another perfect example of a company favouring shareholders over stakeholders. In the long term this mindset of maximizing profit at customers, employees and community members expense will backfire. Stars wants to get 10 eggs out of the golden goose now as opposed to 50 eggs over the long term.

Well I mean this had to come esp with so many pros switching from cash to mtts

Not surprising. MTTs have always offered a higher ROI in respect to rake than other formats especially at the lower stakes.

MTTs present a problem that SNGs and cash games don't though. You can't charge $3+ rake on a $10 MTT. Rake is highly visible and felt in MTTs(even if they hide it in the lobby) much more than in cash games.

To some extent MTTs have always been protected by that. Even fish would notice if you were charging $50 to play the sunday million. That's why you've seen an effort to design tournaments that don't have such a large edge, but can still charge similar fees.

Instead of offering $20+5 events make them $25. Bury the details deeeeep in the fine print. Or don't disclose it at all! Problem solved.

We all knew this was coming after they hid the rake information into the bottom of a separate tab. I'm just surprised it took them this long to move on it. Wonder when they're hitting the >$20's

Added protection, thank god! I know the small & micro stakes tournament players needed it!

Obviously it's bad that rake has been increased on micro MTTs, but is it really that big of a deal? If you were grinding these games for a living or a 2nd income, you really are wasting your time. You can make more flipping burgers at McDonalds than you can grinding these games. Play higher or quit completely.

Stars doesn’t think the golden goose has 50 eggs left. They want 10 eggs now and transform as many poker players into casino players as possible. Opposed to getting maybe 15 eggs in the long run.

Only time will tell if they picked the right approach. Unfortunately, even a lot of non-Stars people in the industry think they do. 2-3 years ago, I often heard people say that it might look bleak right now, but future regulation in the US might change things big time. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say that in 2018.

1 yes

2 yes

3 no and who are you to judge on that

4 not even close

5 lol

Also you are forgetting that these games are part of a full mtt schedule, people may be playing abi 30 and still fire 11 dollars

I mean obviously I'm butthurt about this because I play mtts and it is not like we are entitled to be the only format spared by Amaya greed but every new rake change is a kick in the nuts and should be reacted upon as such. Personally my stars volume has gone down a ton and this will steer me even more towards other sites (shoutout partypoker) so wp again you fkn greedy sons of bitches

PokerStars' amazing regulatory "flexibility and agility" must be really expensive to maintain now that they've dropped the PPA and have completely withdrawn from any discussion about New York S3898.

That proposed legislation would regulate online poker in the Empire State as a stand-alone product without online casino -- and with "suitability" language that could block TSG from the New York market.

I reached out to the iDevelopment and Economic Association (iDEA, the iGaming lobbyist group whose members include TSG, partypoker parent company GVC, 888 and other related interests) Friday to ask about their stance on NY S3898. They didn't respond.

This latest PokerStars "protection" measure for recreational players could be earmarked towards a potential settlement between TSG and the state of Kentucky, which levied an $870 million USD ruling against Stars years ago. Or maybe the David Baazov Supernova Criminal Defense Fund has run dry after recently celebrating its two-year anniversary.
