For some reason poker sites allow people to "ghost" other people, probably because its pretty much impossible to prove that it actually is happening or has happened. I think it would be much, much better if it wasnt happening but what can you do.

True.

But if you say the exact same thing to defend people shortstacking, people (who maybe do ghost) want to rip your eyeballs out.

Playing against Imsakidd is also just another potential downside to playing online.

Just as you might be playing against people who have thousands of hands on you in their hud while you never played them before.

Again, just another potential downside to playing online.

If you dont like playing people who ghost, hit-and-run-shortstack or datamine you, go play live.

Or get another hobby/job.

I usually shortstack and I have one of my mid/highstakes regular friend ghosting my play. I think it's fine.

It is very unfair for Spizzle Rock to think he is playing a certain player that he has a book on, when the screen name could be used by another player. They get an unfair advantage by knowing it is Spizzle Rizzle, but what if player #1 is using the account and he makes a play that Spirit Rock knows to be a bluff, and SR is standing up to do the stanky leg as he calls the bluff, but it is player #2 that always shows up with the goods in this spot. Then he has to break off the stanky leg in mid shake, and question his being.

i'd say dataming is a bit closer to 'the line' than all the others.

watching your friends play or "ghosting" as they call it, is probably the on par with short stacking... in terms of how ****ed it is to have ethical objections to it.

How are training sites even brought up into this ? A player who plays on their own account, records their thought process, and shares it later is hardly considered ghosting.

Something needs to be done, at least the higher stakes games. The camera idea is just not practical (and probably not secure enough). It's still possible to do some kind of authentication while maintaining privacy.

The sites need to implement something like fingerprint authentication for the high stakes games.

It wouldn't be too hard to make sure the guy who owns the account is at the computer. The hard part, and more relevant, would be to make sure that no one else is in the room or on skype/teamviewer helping out. Preventing this is so impractical that it should just be outright allowed, if you ask me.

Anyone saying "ghosting" is unethical is somewhat right. In a perfect world, it'd be unethical and banned. However, in the real world, when something becomes literally impossible to prove, it has to become legal ie. ethical.
