serious question: if he plays the ME, he has to bust in like, level 1 or 2, right?

how can he possibly spend seven full days, much less one day, playing a poker tournament?

imagine the dealer: "Mr. President, no cell phones at the table, please."

I think Mr. President would be exempted from all sorts of rules....

And yeah obviously he couldn't be there long. Even if he showed up and just played his best for an hour, and then left and let his chips get blinded off, that would be an incredible thing to do, at least from our perspectives.

It would be illegal for him to accept that buy in as a gift. I know Senate rules state that you (staff and senator) can't accept a gift worth more than $50 and no more than $100 worth of gifts per year. I'd imagine the office of the President has similar guidelines

And this is personnel gifts, not campaign donations - those are dealt with elsewhere.

Obv the probability is borderline 0, but still more than 0. You see, some people at the ME play in a way that the probability for them to win is no other than 0. If Im playing against far superior players than me, it could be the best bet & I think its a better strategy than folding your way into blinding off (which is quite popular among elders btw).

Btw Gus Hansen pretty much did this at the poker superstars III some years ago. It was 6 or 8 handed though.

Also, I wouldnt want to bust the president...

I think that Obama will never show up, just because the media would blow this whole thing up, and he doesnt want to be associated with gambling too much.

Note that we all know poker is a skill game, in the eyes of the public, poker is like slots..

But personally I think obama should become a team pokerstar pro, which would make pokerstars into fishtank no. 1 within days.

I would also like to see obama on HSP, raising his 86 vs lederers AK. I guess it would kill thousends of people, due to epicness overload.

No doubt ESPN will show it and Lon will explain why and Norman Chad will make lame jokes. And then it might get slight mainstream media coverage after it's televised and someone might even ask Obama about it as a joke during a live press conference which will force him to be aware of it and maybe eventually the entire UIGEA issue. It can only be good for poker as far as I can imagine.

I think Obama could legitimately play some poker while in office, but the Main Event is probably too big a commitment. But for fundraising or campaigning purposes, playing a few hands of poker is hardly a big deal compared with say, fundraising dinners.
