It’s not on the court system yet. The government only asked for 4 years so he is essentially capped at that

I mean you're comparing a photo where he's smiling with his hair combed with one of him with a miserable look on his face and his hair uncombed.

But really if you had similar poses in both he doesn't look much different.

When Operation Predator (yes that's the actual government name of it because it's a government initiative to deport foreign national pedophiles) tried to deport Shiekhan for his rape of a 17 year old girl his lawyer argued that boys will be boys and she was basically a woman anyway

real good guy you people admire

Quote:
Popular poker professional Shawn Sheikhan is facing deportation to Iran thanks to a 1995 conviction for which he already served more than nine months in prison.

Sheikhan served nine months in jail and was put on probation for five years after being convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery charges in 1995. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) actively searches for foreign nationals who were convicted of a sexual crime against children and then tries to get them deported.

According to Sheikhan's lawyer, David Chesnoff, the child in this case was a 17-year-old girl that Sheikhan knew when he was in his early 20s.

"It's not allegations involving a child in the actual meaning of the word, it's a legal definition," Chesnoff told Card Player. "There's a lot of work to be done on his behalf that's going to be done. He's a good husband and a good father, and a lot of people have problems when they're young that shouldn't follow them for the rest of their lives."

I can't believe "misdemeanor" sexual battery is a thing.
Shawn Sheikhan Sentence Quote

Reading the story of his sexual battery makes him seem like an ass but not all that more than that. He spent a reasonable amount of time in prison for it. Him hydroplaning a car and killing an old lady is kinda worse imo. **** that, slow the ****ing car down dumbo. Should've thrown him out of the country back then.

Google says it's unwanted sexual touching, which I guess is like grabbing someone's ass.

Not good, but it would be kinda crazy to get a felony for that imo.

did you actually read that?

yeah totally normal to forcibly shove your hands down the pants of your teenage employees

granted it's not nearly as bad as I imagined but that's not a "misunderstanding"

There was absolutely nothing to like about this guy, he was a giant d-bag everytime he was on camera. I remember him breaking Matusows glasses and trying to bully him, bully a floorperson, etc.

Guy has a major ego and sense of entitlement, good riddance.

Not gonna lie, I never knew he ran a store, let alone one in Northern California. Especially news to me that this was during the height of TV poker.

EDIT: my bad, the post was 2008 but the incidents in the store were back in the late 1990s.

It's bad and he's an ******* but he got 9 months prison and 5 years probation. I'm usually on the far side "for the love of god sentence people harder" but this seems proportional to me. Where the **** did I say it seems normal?

you said he seems like an ass but not more than that

i think most have crossed the line at various points while flirting - whenever I read reports about sexual harassment/sexually inappropriate advances etc I can't help but realize that I've done a lot of those things described but the difference was that I correctly read the room and it was well received and can easily see how my dumbass could have mistaken interest and done something regretable - frankly a lot of the metoo stuff goes down regularly amongst consenting adults who are into it - like louie ck, i'm extremely sympathetic to him because he literally asked the girls "can i jerk off in front of you" and they said yes and so he did and then years later they said they felt like they were forced into it due to the power dynamic as they were young aspiring female comics

but everyone knows better than to forcibly shove your hand in a high school student's pants when you're her boss and in your 20s and she's repeatedly rejected your sexual advances already

i definitely think that's more than being an ass

granted the punishment feels a bit extreme but i think most punishments for sexual assault tend to be for good reason - overwhelming majority goes unreported so you can usually assume they've done it before and will do it again

I agree. For a non-violent offense people should be doing that kind of time. What purpose does it serve to send someone away for 4 years in this situation?

Sheiky was maybe caught in the middle of a pissing match between Feds and States. While states like CA can legalize weed, the Feds will remind everyone that weed is still a Federal crime. He was prosecuted at the Federal level, which perhaps makes irrelevant what CA thinks of weed.
