There are filling foods that have low or quite low carbs and that are low or medium protein.
For example vegetable stews or soups that have sweet potato, turnips, parsnips, onions, carrots, tomatoes, and pulses in them, lentils, pearl barley, black beans and butter beans etc.
He is 37 and very unfit, he needs to build slowly towards his targets, not adopt some kind of extreme keto diet that might give him short term gains but that is unsustainable.
Oats/porridge is also very fulling as are bananas. You have to find low or medium calorie foods that are filling.
