Actually it didn't look like many, if any, under-qualified players were entered by anyone (except for businessmen entering themselves). What happened was the way the tourney was structured meant that all of the pros who were here just had to chase value by firing multi-bullets if they busted and had ample opportunities to do so.
As such, yes FML indeed, since the travel costs were far higher than the eventual overlay value, but then look how many Sklansky Dollars I won when a maniac "pro" at my table, who had already bagged over 6M in Day 2A, decided to go mental on Day 2B and arrived at my table with 10M chips. After maybe one orbit he had already pushed pretty much every other player at the table off winning hands with outrageous bluffs, all of which he showed, when he then proceeded to open-shove his SB vs my BB at 20k/40k for 1.6M effective (i.e. 40bb).
I'd say my AJo was 60% versus his range (and was 68.5% versus his actual hand of A8s), so he handed me ~$1,700 of equity with his shove, theoretically covering my entire travel costs.
Unfortunately, however, Sklansky Dollars can't be spent IRL and he knocked me out...FML indeed.
Anyway it's a beautiful resort, which I'll enjoy tomorrow, before flying home on Friday. I'm happy that I came and gave myself a chance to chase my dreams...
