Serious accusations concerning Qui Nguyen as final table about to play out Serious accusations concerning Qui Nguyen as final table about to play out

11-01-2016 , 08:03 PM
From Andy Philachack (well known, respected high limit tournament pro) facebook.

"Got a story to tell you guys about Qui Nguyen that is at the WSOP final table with 3 left. . About 5 years ago I made a final table of the $1500 buy in the WSOP event. So for some reason Qui Nguyen was railing me at the final table. After I got third he followed me to the cash out cage and ask for 10k. I was like man I don't really know you but here is $500 for you to keep and another 2k for you to play in the Mega satellite to get into the main. We had a deal that if he gets a seat he would play for 50% of the profit. Well an hr later I call and ask him how he was doing. His answers was f..k You I'm not playing and I'm keeping your F..king money . So here we are 5 years later and he is at the final table. lol I think I'm entitle to half of his winning or at least he should donate my $2500 to the Children's Hospital. What do y'all think?"

.
.
.

Allen subsequently posted additional information from Andy which is added here.

From Andy....

"Let me explain something to you....

1) I was trying to help out pretty much a stranger with $500 but he insisted on 10k to play the main, so I gave him 2k for a satellite instead.
2) Instead of telling me he played the tourn and busted- When I call- he tells me to **** off and that he's keeping the 2k. (This was Bc he was angry that he didn't get 10k from me)
3) I have not heard or seen this guy since that call 5 years ago until he made the November 9.
4) I've contemplated about telling my story for months. Until I started hearing stories about what a good person he is, especially from my Asian people - even my own parents thought that he should win.

I posted this story for my fellow poker friends to be aware of the kind of person he is.
It is what it is, I'm done talking about this."

I think Doublejoker deserves a time out from starting any threads for having started this one.

Why is being accused of stealing $2,500 funny to you? Rolling in the staking community is a big deal.

The sad thing is that this is almost a minor incident compared to a bunch of stuff from the last few years.

Also, the timing of that surfacing is so weird. Nguyen's been at the final table for 3+ months and he only speaks out now?

I don't mean to downplay what he allegedly did, or to question the legitimacy of the story... Nguyen doesn't exactly strike me as the most responsible guy out there. It's almost stereotypical for some middle-aged Baccarat degen to have done something like this. But so far this is pretty far from a ZOMG MEGA SCANDAL. If he didn't happen to be 1/3 in WSOP Main noone would care at all.

I didn't say it was funny. But to try and make this out to be some great lockeroom talk scandal is ridiculous. The whole story is fishy. Tosses some random $ but then has his # to call and check in.

Fwiw, republishing a defamatory statement is itself defamation. You think doublejoker has any idea at all whether what he republished is accurate.

....

btw, Lisa Bonet is not dead, despite stories to the contrary featured on the internets and the home page of the Review Journal online.

I hear from a respected pro that 13 years ago (around May 2003), Chainsaw went to the buffet at The Orleans with a free buffet ticket he got for playing 12 hours of 0/8.

according to this well respected pro, Chainsaw ate the buffet (including extra desserts) and did not leave a tip.

I was gonna put this in own thread, but decided better to post here.

I'm actually more surprised when I hear that a pro poker player or gambler is not a degenerate scumbag, so if it's true that's pretty standard. Does seem a little more than a bit fishy though.

I think Andy has very bad money management as a fool and his money are soon parted.

Best thing that could have happened to that money is if it was used to buy a cool hat.

I found this line quite funny.

Chainsaw, that post by Andy just reeks of total bullsh*t.

"I don't really know you but here is $500 for you to keep"....give me a break.

If he'd brought it up earlier it would've been a spoiler though ;p

Not hard to believe at all. I've given a degenerate/railbird money after a big win before. There's no way I'm ever getting paid back so it's always a gift, not a loan. I realize that maybe most people don't do this but there are are some who do.

Lulz. Either:
(a) story is untrue / leaves something important out; or
(b) story is true and, while QN is obv in the wrong, plaintiff deserves close to zero sympathy.

Who lends 2 dimes to someone you don't know. I don't get why poker players do this

Nice timing Alan, these serious allegations of "someone said so" are suddenly brought up as Qui is in the final three. You sound like my ex-girlfriend - always living someone else's life. Make sure your allegations are founded before making a thread about them and smearing a player when he is in the limelight. Just because someone is a high-stakes player doesn't give them more credibility. Look at all the bs out there these days in the HS community.

You think Qui is bad.....you should hear some of the stuff Vayo's got up to.......serious badass

Chainsaw always with these barely threadworthy threads.

Is there a "ignore threads started by xyz" button?
