it is mostly likely horses yes. tbf poker is also quite popular in brazil.

There are a ton of MTT stables, and even a cash stable that only plays on bovada afiak

Not suggesting anything, but in the current climate I think stars probably already did or should investigate this. A bit too cracy, never seen anything even close to this. Play obv could be soft playing or stuff like that, if certain players are from same stable.

Anyhow, also no high stakes cash but pretty interesting imo.
