Re: Seat me: RIP game selection on Stars

This is not the experiment. It was on FTP and it killed all the cash games. So it is predictable way to kill cash games traffic.

Re: Seat me: RIP game selection on Stars

whilst the games on ftp at ssnl were great in terms of bb/100 when they tried this. it totally made it impossible to get more than 6 tables. people did just constantly cycle through tables so it was semi-like zoom until you come across a fish. but at least always had hands going

Or maybe they are just Players which dont use a seating script ?

You can seat players with better players and the game will just not run. Especially when charging insane amounts of rake.
Pros play to make money, not for the experience.

Should they hand out penalties for not playing? This creates even more hostility for both regs and fish.
Zoom only? A lot of fish don't like Zoom, so you'll push more players away.

Party has the anonymous table system. The reg sits with a stack making it obvious it him and the game always breaks within an orbit, if there is no fish.
Now, there is a lot more angling and grimming going on, and fish get annoyed by constant camping for two orbits, when the regs are trying to find out if a fish sat.

You can do subtle stuff like not have scripts sit you within 0.1 seconds, so it looks like players are joining naturally.
Or you can make the wait list invisible when at a table.

But you can't get rid of this problem, if you can even call it that.
When I first started to play live in a must move system, I hated it. I came from live NL where we constantly table changed to chase the biggest fish. But guess what, over time I've learned to love must moves and realize how bad table changing was for the game.

At my casino, if I sit in the MM game and it sucks, I can quit, sit out an hour and get back on the list for the next open seat/game. That sucks, and I never do it because even a sucky MM game should be profitable for me, and games change rapidly as new players arrive. We are all on equal footing, no crusher has any magic technology to beat me to good games, we end up with similar mixes of weak, good and great games.

The games are better too because of this mix. And fish don't feel as hunted (though don't get me started on seat changers), and seem to play more and longer sessions.

Stars could never ban seating scripts, enforcing it would have been a nightmare. Sounds like they found a better solution, and games are going to improve because of it. Players will adjust, like they always do. Seat script sellers will whine and no one should care.

Re: Seat me: RIP game selection on Stars

I'm surprised Stars are doing this because it proved to be an absolute disaster on Full Tilt. It was the final nail in the coffin on that site.

I don't really see how High Stakes games will run now...

High Stakes players aren't going to sit there all day without a seating Script for GasTrader to play Trueteller Heads Up once in a Blue Moon.

Re: Seat me: RIP game selection on Stars

FTP system wasn't the same, but the effect will be the same pretty much.

Stars are taking money from scripters/bumhunters/script developers and give one part to the best regs who gonna stay no matter what, and the other part to self.

Recreational players will suffer though, as their loserate will go up. Some of them can handle it, some of them gonna quit or play lower stakes.

Imo FTP died not because of this system, but because it was all planned by Stars to merge the pools slowly.

@desertcat & morilka

you are assuming the change will get rid of scripts. it wont. it might even make scripts more valuable. i never built a script for ftp because it wasnt worth the investment but it was certainly scriptable. dont you think it would be really nice to have a software that alerts you when a fish sits in the pool? yep, that can be done

lol, are you serious ? People without Script had absolutely no Chance to get a few decent Tables running. How will this changes make it worse for non- Script users ?

Yes, it could be done on FTP, because you could sit in, check the game and quit if there is no fish. Only downside would be one split second when you post your BB.

Stars want to make it all table starters basically, and a script won't help if 5 best regs online are sitting in a 6max table starter, waiting for a fish to join them.

because:

1. different scripts will appear.
2. a lot more grimming, fake tables opening etc will happen. have you played high stakes on party? if you did you probably noticed what a waste of time it is. you have to sit down, play 2 hands (and hope you dont get grimmed) and close the table about 10 times until you get a table with a VIP. it seems that it will be the same in stars. up to this point people could stars a table. now they will have to deal with this BS.

1. Scripts are already there, so how should that be worse for Non- Script users ? the only difference is that only half as many people will own a Script then, which will be good for non- script users
2. without script you have to open atleast 10 tables already to get a table with a vip, so i dont see a difference there also. i agree about table starting tho

I understand you are against making less Money from selling your scripts, but dont try to tell Non- Script users that it will be worse for them. that is just ridicioulous.
If they implement it the same way as Full tilt, people atleast will not be able to sit out for more than 5 minutes. And maybe they find a Solution to the table hopping and grimming aswell(big Maybe)
On Full tilt the Games have gotten a lot Juicier when this Changes were applied and the best part was that you could just fire up a few tables and Play, without seat searching for ages

Consider that I have no motivation in convincing anyone of anything. I don't give a damn if people believe me or not really. It won't increase my EV.

The reduction in EV for the regs comes from them having to waste their time checking if there is a fish among the guys waiting for the table to start.

Certainly if less people end up scripting that will benefit them. It's hard to say what they will do. There is a range of scenarios where non scripters end up gaining EV but in the vast majority of cases they are on the losing side.

Re: Seat me: RIP game selection on Stars

And what about all the 3handed and 4handed games?

All the 3- and 4handed regwar games would disappear. All the competition gone? You can't just go ahead and play against the best anymore if you wanted unless you get a good seat draw or what? All the competition gone?

Basically they just throw the King of the Hill system out the window and the drive to become the best or go the top will just disappear.. the "dream" of poker and rising will die
that's how i see it at least

Re: Seat me: RIP game selection on Stars

Isn't this just the system on microgaming too? I play on there and it seems to me that there is scripting going on there all the time. In general I find it much easier to get in fish games on there at like 2/4 - 25-50 though.

I kinda agree with a ishipKQ and what he's saying seems reasonably correct but man does he seem like an incredible awful and nitty human.

FFS, the lot of you complaining that this won't be a 100% solution to bumhunting: just because we can't do everything doesn't mean we shouldn't do anything. This will have a material effect on reducing bumhunting. Good for Stars.
