This is much different than laughing at eskimo clark who is in no way a clown and makes no effort to entertain or be funny. people who laugh at eskimo are sorta evil. can you not believe that grizzle is exactly who he wants to be and is doing exactly what he wants to do? that is the simplest answer and most logical answer. im not going to project my morality onto the situation. Many of my family/friends have thought or still do think I am some sort of degenerate/criminal for making a living gambling. Indeed much of society would think that. So who are we to inject...take a man at his word (just dont loan him money).
This is spot on. I interact with Sam on a daily basis (he's my neighbor). And while he is in no way
happy during the times he has little money and needs to depend on others to get into the game, he doesn't depend on money for happiness. As long as he's got enough to pay the rent and make his daughter happy, he's perfectly fine just being in action and being the center of attention at a poker table. So FF, I by no means think his story is "sad", and think you too would have a different opinion of Sam if you knew him personally.
Had dinner at the Peppermill with him last night and he had myself and the 3 others in the group rolling on the ground laughing all night. IMO he values his self worth on how he entertains others and makes them smile. So as long as were all still laughing, Sam's sleeping just fine at night.
