Real heart isn't catching a ball in a game. Real heart isn't making a comeback for the cash when you're down. Real heart is watching a guy in a situation like this facing it the way he is.

Puts a lot of the BS discussed here in perspective. What a great guy for doing this. As well as helping to create The Simpsons.

Well played, sir. For bringing a lot of joy to a lot of people.

You guys are all so sad.

Sam Simon clearly lead a prolific life, one which 99.99% of the people on this earth could never hope to compare too.

Death is an inevitability. The only reason to be sad when death comes is if the life that preceded death wasn't all it could or should have been.

Mr. Simon obviously kicked the world's ass his entire life, so instead of sad I think that all of his friends, family and admirers should be proud.

Just my two cents

And Mr. Simon would probably agree with every word here, at least from what I gathered from the Maron interview.

Although this is probably a quack therapy, many claim cancer is a vitamin deficiency. There is a series of youtube videos and book reviews on "Cancer - Step Outside the Box". Yes it is a long shot but why not. Also I played with you once in one of the cheap tournaments at Hollywood Park Casino. I think it would be a kick to add $10 million to one of those to see what happens. Hope you beat it.

So he's out giving away a stupid amount of money to causes he believes in, getting full value for his remaining time on earth, and the world at large is responding by saying, "Wow, that's awesome; thank you for everything."

How much better that seems than him dying, then everybody saying, "Oh - he was a great guy; I'm sorry he's gone."

If you look at the interview quoted above, Simon mentions Tom Sawyer's funeral. For those not up on their Twain, Tom was thought by the citizens of his town to be dead, so they had a funeral for him, at which they all praised him to the skies. He was watching the event from hiding and had a most glorious time. Simon is making the point that this way he's able to enjoy the praise and appreciation being given him, rather than after he's gone.

Look, colon cancer isn't pretty and his last couple of months are likely to be either painful or (I strongly hope) sufficiently medicated that he doesn't suffer. He's saying good-bye from his feet while passing out tons of money to great causes - we should all hope to go so well.

Regards, Lee
You seem like a good guy. In reality, you are dead-on. It just sucks.

He pads into the kitchen and makes himself a coffee before firing up a robust Cuban cigar, then alternately sits and reclines on a wall-length banquette that looks out on his lawn of statuary, including one of the original casts of Auguste Rodin's "The Thinker."

Not trying to be a dick, clearly a horrible situation, but I just don't get it.
When you have all the money you ever need and can do what you want, colonoscopies are not in the top 10 of things that come to mind.

Michael Jackson was obsessed with his own health. Look how far he got.

There are more things in life than trying to squeeze out as many years as possible.

That said: much respect for Sam and what he has achieved. I hope he still has plenty of quality time left to enjoy. GL

Great read Pocket Thank You.

All the Best Mr Simon and it sounds like you are Livin the Dream have a Ball Sir.

I have been on Transplant list for a Liver taken off 6 weeks ago told they couldn't do anything but we will keep you alive for a few years. 5 days later they say come back down and back on list, last Wednesday off again and get results of the new Cancers found in my Liver on Friday. It has been one hell of a Roller Coaster ride.

I am trying anything to stay alive as long as possible as I have a Beautiful 10 year old daughter who has been by my side throughout our ordeals which started 4.5 years ago when we Lost our 18 year old Son. I just started coming good then December 2012 they find Cancer in my liver. Been a struggle ever since, she was always by my side but she decided to stay home last time as it has been soooo Cold here in Perth.

We live 1600k away and she has a school Picnic tomorrow, Mum has to go back to work so I told her to take her brothers photo a blanket and enjoy the picnic. She has been to 11 schools back and forth but as I said to her you have met so many people and made friends where ever you went. She is a great kid.

I tell the Specialists that most of the big medical words go right over my head and say it is like I am Bart Simpsons dog as it sounds like Bla Bla Bla. Loved the show and all the best with your fight, I am trying what ever is available and will never give in.

If you're over 50 and not getting regular colonoscopies something's wrong.

I had two polyps removed on my first one and zero thankfully on my second one six years later.

An ounce of prevention.......

Fight the good fight, positivity and a strong mind set go a long way. I wish you the best man, and I hope you get to continue to watch your daughter grow for many years to come.

kinda hard to comprehend.. you would think a guy at his age with all the wealth would do a yearly health check up.. we all really need to do it
