Pokerstars was launched on the day of 9/11? Pokerstars was launched on the day of 9/11?

Hi Guys I just looked for pokerstars on wikipedia and read there that it was launched on 11th September 2001, is it true? Did 9/11 have any impact on the site? Is this the reason why pokerstars doesn't have any anniversary promotion but have only sunday million anniversary promotion?

I would imagine quite a few businesses opened on 9/11.
I would also imagine quite a few opened on 9/10, 9/12 and 9/13 too.

They probably don't celebrate the anniversary to appease stupid people. There's a lot of stupid people, so it makes business sense.

Agree it's kind of sick

History

PokerStars launched its beta play-money-only site on September 11, 2001. The company began offering real money wagering on December 12, 2001.

Why is it kind of sick?
They probably went live before the first plane hit, let alone before everyone realised it was a terrorist attack.
What would you have expected them to do? Shut down again and wait a few days?

Get a grip.

It's kind of sick because of the coincidence. Look at it.

Of course they had the date planned long before. No blaming of any sort.

But the company meaning as much to me as 2+2 (almost of course) started up 9/11.

You're so right.

They Might Be Giants also released their album Mink Car on the same day.
What the hell were they thinking!?

Edit: Oh my god....

Ben Folds released the Album Rockin' the Suburbs too.
I smell a music industry conspiracy.

We need answers!

You *could* care less? Meaning you do care about it, and therefore are able to care less?

Or, maybe you meant the logical phrase...couldn't care less.

There's a post about it somewhere in this thread talking about it + a link to an anecdote from one of the founding employees.

people these days, too much time on their hands posting random things. No one asks the really important questions to life anymore. Like how come Jay Z's The Blueprint was released 9/11 2001? Guy needs to be interrogated

do your research b4 you nitpick imo.

Yeah, do your research.
There's a couple of articles out there written by people who want to try to cover up their own stupidity.

Obviously, they fail.

Pretty sure Slayer released God Hates Us All as well on that date.
09-11-2014 , 02:57 PM
Probably because most albums are released on Tuesdays in the US...

One of HOV's greatest albums. Must be a coincidence.

makes sense as that day is basically retired for special events, like a hockey jersey
