Thank you for your responses about bumhunting. If anyone else has an opinion you want to share - go for it! I'm still gathering information, so your input would be valuable for me.

And thanks for the kind words about the podcast!

This week we rebroadcast the episode with Bencb to the podcast platforms. And that concludes our mini-series with "the German Crew" - Fedor Holz, Stefffen Sontheimer, and Benjamin Rolle (bencb).

Next week we'll be rebroadcasting another early episode and after that it's back to business as usual, bringing you new episodes on a regular basis.

Hi Everyone:

Below is an email that Runchucks sends out summarizing his podcasts. Since I liked the guest, I thought it would be okay to take the liberty of reproducing it here.

Best wishes,
Mason

I really enjoyed the conversation with Mason Malmuth. His new book is a great read, a novel look at historical events through a lens of gambling. Naturally, we discussed some of the stories from the book. Check it out if here https://amzn.to/2DLS1nC.

We covered a lot of ground in this conversation, discussing the current events in the poker world, GTO vs exploitation, “what is a good game”, rake and bonuses, how to define who are the best players, online poker regulations, tournament prize structures and guarantees, high-stakes private games, selling action and so much more. If you haven’t listened to the episode yet, check it out, there’s a lot of great stuff there. You can watch it on YT https://youtu.be/5lutiDJkXcE or listen to it wherever you get your podcasts, e.g. Apple Podcasts https://apple.co/2ZXWYlO

The biggest takeaway for me is that playing poker for a living in some ways shapes our understanding of the world, the way we view money, the way we view events and decisions. It’s crazy that gambling is a taboo subject in many households, yet in essence, gambling is all around us and if you dig deep enough, absolutely everyone gambles in some way whether they realize that or not. A lot of people could benefit from embracing this fact and taking a more rational view of gambling, getting to grips with basic statistics and probability theory.

And the next time when somebody frowns at you playing poker for a living because you’re “just a gambler”, you can send them a link to this episode. Everyone gambles, but you just consciously do it better than most.

Best Regards,
Runchuks

Hey Runchuks,

I just discovered this podcast last month and have already listened to a bunch of them. I love your podcast hosting style, you do a phenomenal job of supporting the guests in talking about whatever they are trying to talk. I also am very impressed that you basically never miss a beat highlighting the key concepts in each section, which is excellent since most people love to ramble (I know I do!). And of course your own story is also very interesting, I'm listening to your solo podcast (#10) right now

Thank you, that's great to hear!

On another note, many people reached out to me privately asking if I've sent out the newseltter with my takeaways & summary of the episode with Bill Perkins. I haven't yet, it's to come later this year. And additionally, I'm writing a short article about the topic covered in his book. I'll keep you guys posted.

Just published an episode with Nathan Gamble.

Nathan was 12 years old when he started playing poker in his father's regular game, fast forward less than two decades and now he has 2 WSOP bracelets to his name. His is a fascinating story. We talk about him growing up as a kid playing an adult game, college years, Nathan's 4 years in the military, him being kidnapped as a teen, and of course the WSOP glory. Eventually, we get to the topic of the Galfond Challenge and poker on Twitch. There is a lot in between (like a huge segway into the topic of war and PTSD)

Let me know what you think about his episode.

PS
Next week we have Adam Carmichael for the 2nd time on the show. It was a great conversation, lots of actionable advice on the mental game side of poker.

Indeed. So many people struggle with this. Glad you found the tip useful. It's such a neat hack

The new episode is with Dr. Roman Yampolksiy who is one of the leading experts on the topic of AI safety. He was considering becoming a professional poker player some 12 years ago. Right around the time when I started playing poker myself. And since then, he doesn't have high hopes for the future of the online poker industry. I am much more optimistic (or delusional)

We covered so many other topics in this one. For example - what is AI, what is intelligence, how does the future look like, how it affects our lives, what does it mean to be human, does AI have emotions, does it perceive art? And the list just goes on.

This isn't a topic for a light dinner conversation. I was surprised to find out so many things about the future of AI and dangers it poses.

I'm really curious to find out what do you guys think about this one, so let me know.

this was a very interesting and horizon broadening conversation. It seems that,if his informed view is correct, even in the best case scenario the human role in the new world would limited to areas where man is and probably always will be superior to machines. Examlples : explaining what is correct to another human in such a way as the other acknowledges the correctness - managing the actual employees such that the AI derived plan is actually implemented - actually physically manipulating the environment so as to produce the optimal product . Human skills forged over millenia by evolution and honed through apprenticeship and practise are unlikely to be matched by machines ,even though human reasoning power is limited. And we can always play poker face to face.

Hey guys,

Last week we published the episode with Jennifer Shahade who is a 2 time US Women’s Chess Champion, a PokerStars ambassador, and she is also an author, speaker, and host of The Grid, which received the award for the best poker podcast this year.

This is a wide-ranging conversation where we discuss chess, poker, podcasting, and the new Netflix series The Queen's Gambit. Jennifer had a chance to talk to Gary Kasparov and Scott Frank (the creator of The Queen's Gambit) about the show. So naturally, we discuss it a bit in our conversation.

I hope you'll enjoy it!

New podcast episode with the 14th World Champion - GM Vladimir Kramnik. It's his second time on the show. Chess trivia, a bit about the Queen's Gambit, what's the path to the top in chess, how Vladimir got into chess, and much more...

Discussion about learning from mistakes and using the solvers directly applies to poker as well. Great advice there from the chess legend. So much to learn from him. Check out the timestamps in the description if you want to jump ahead to specific segments of the conversation.

RaślGonzalez on PokerStars (San1ker on FTP) does not require an introduction for most of you. But just in case – he’s one of the most successful high-stakes online poker players, who’s been playing professionally for over a decade. And he recently retired.
Here is our wide-ranging conversation with him, where he talks about his study routines, his biggest matches, his path to the top, and much more. He shares a lot of useful study tips and tricks and doesn’t hold anything back whether we talk about poker theory or about his opponents like Isildur1, Berri Sweet or Sauce123
