I like the idea of getting more guests on outside of poker

I wish I went that route earlier on in my approach to it.

It's not too late buddy! And great job getting limitless on the podcast recently. Even though it's only 20 minutes - it's great stuff. If somebody here still hasn't seen it - I highly recommend it. That's one interview that won't leave you indifferent.

Thanks! I know exactly what you mean. I listen to a ton of podcasts myself. I put them on the phone, bump up the speed to 1.5x and all the daily chores or commute turn into productive time.

Thank you I suspect that it that the curve can't continue forever. I try explore various topics, so naturally, some people might find some of the topics less interesting, but hopefully, there's a good take-away from each episode for everybody.

This week we'll be publishing an episode with David Reichelt the creator of a mobile game Color Switch. The game was downloaded over 250 million times and generated > $75 million in revenue. So this is not directly poker-related, but I'm sure some listeners will find inspiration. David's persistence, passion, and dedication are contagious. And since the poker industry keeps shifting towards entertainment and gaming, I felt it important to take a look at what's actually happening in the mobile game world.

And next week we have the NLHE high-stakes crusher MMAsherdog on the show.

Just published the episode with David Reichelt - the creator of a very successful mobile game Color Switch.

We talk about his journey, how he created 40 unsuccessful games before finally hitting the home-run, where does he find inspiration, persistence, passion, and about his creative process. David shares a lot of useful tips. It is quite a wide-ranging conversation and whether you're exploring a new hobby, are looking for creative ideas, or just want to broaden your horizon or find a new passion in life, there's definitely something here for you in this interview. And of course, we also take a look at the poker industry and the trend of making poker more fun. Online poker sites recently borrow a lot of ideas from the gaming world and in many ways, they are competing with EA Sports more than with the online casinos.

Let me know what are your key takeaways from this episode. Cheers!

I don't think people realise how much of a beast Runchucks is compared to that other guy who plays 1/2 at aria.

Give Runchucks 45 mins with Ben86 and lets see what happens.

Hey guys,

thank you all for the kind words!

The first episode with MMAsherdog that MILLIONAIRE77 is referring to is this one:

Since it's one of the early ones, unfortunately, it's only available on YouTube, but not on the podcast platforms.

PS
glad to see that we're providing some entertainment for Joey. I wonder how much is one of those '>' worth

Hi Millionaire:

I'm not sure who "that other guy is" but when I appeared on the Runchucks podcast I was highly impressed with how prepared he was to talk to me and his dept of knowledge on a number of different subjects.

Of course, I will say the same thing about the other podcasts I recently appeared on since they are excellent as well, but the Runchuks show is definitely top notch.

Best wishes,
Mason

Mason, thank you for the kind words! My preparation is a testament to how good your book is. I only received it shortly before our conversation and zoomed through it in one go - a very enjoyable read.

And on the topic of other podcasts. I personally am very happy to see that there are more and more content creators out there who take things seriously. This is not a zero-sum game, so I'd say the more the better. I listen to a lot of podcasts myself and it's great to see that there's such a variety of guests and topics covered every week. Not every episode is interesting to all listeners, but we always have a choice of what to listen to every week because people keep producing.

This week's episode is with Lee Davy. Some of you know him as a poker journalist. He has interviewed many of the best poker players in world as part of the I am High Stakes Poker series - guys like Tom Dwan, Jason Koon, Andrew Robl, Trueteller, and many others. But some of you might know him as the guy who created the 1000 days sober organization.

I don’t know if you specifically need to hear the message that Lee shares about addiction. I didn't think I have time for such topics myself. But this was quite an eye-opening conversation for me. So I encourage you to stick with this and listen with an open mind. Maybe you’ll just have a laugh or two, maybe this will change your life. And maybe you know someone who would benefit from hearing this. So go ahead and share this episode with them.

Hey Runchucks,

Just wanted to say I really enjoy your podcasts. You have great variety of guests, who are not all necessarily poker crushers, but really interesting people that in one way or another relate to poker.
Hope you keep doing it. Best of luck!

I'm taking a break this week. So instead of a new episode, we are rebroadcasting the Fedor Holz episode to all podcast platforms. There are still a bunch of earlier episodes like this one which are available exclusively on YouTube. We'll gradually publish them to the audio podcast platforms.

I'm working on a new podcast episode. Slightly different format. Interviewing several people. The topic is BUMHUNTING.

Gathering views from as many of you as I can reach. Several well known high stakes players already shared their thoughts with me. Several of my regular Twitch viewers chipped in as well. I'd highly appreciate your input on the topic. Trying to gather and represent many different perspectives.

Here are some questions to start:
  • how would you define bumhunting?
  • why does bumhunting occur?
  • how does it make the recreational players feel?
  • is bumhunting optimal behavior at the table?
  • what 1 thing can be done which would make things better? (if anything needs to be done)

Feel free to reach out to me with your thoughts on this on any platfrom.

And if you're up for it, I'd highly appreciate if you leave me a voice message with your answers here: https://www.runchukspodcast.com/message

I might use some of those voice messages in the podcast (unless you specify that you'd prefer that I don't).

Thanks!

how would you define bumhunting?
it used to be uncool , now it is the norm. I feel like its natural selection.

why does bumhunting occur?
regs have become somewhat at par with each other so there is not much to be gained battling against each other. Also with advancement in technology the level of avg regs is pretty high, and with the ratio of regs to fish being skewed it leads to predatory environment.

how does it make the recreational players feel?
you'd have to ask them. I'd guess they could care less.

is bumhunting optimal behavior at the table?
it is optimal for the individual, everyone is out for themselves.

what 1 thing can be done which would make things better? (if anything needs to be done)
people have predicted nl Holdem wud be dead a long time ago, solvers have been here for 5+ years now. there is a competitive aspect about the game that makes it appealing for people to pursue this dream. even though its hard to be optimistic about online poker, i feel like it'll survive. regs will have to battle each other , rake would need to be lowered substantially to incentivise reg battles.

very basic answers, like your pod . cheers!

  • Aggressive predatory behavior targeting recreational players, i.e. scripting, sitting out/max tanking when the rec takes a smoke break, etc.
  • In a misguided attempt by regs to maximize their EV
  • I would assume that there are some who don't care and some who feel targeted/have less fun/are less excited to play
  • In the short term, yes, but long term I think it drives recs away which is a negative for the poker ecosystem and especially regs
  • As far as sites go, I don't think there's much they can do aside from enforcing the obvious rules like scripting. I think the recs are really the people who police bumhunting, and they do it by playing in private games where they can exclude predatory (or even all) regs. This is already the direction things are trending, which really sucks as a reg because the game is becoming less about the actual game and more about brown-nosing/ass-kissing/pretending to be people's friend. at least that's the case at the higher stakes, and especially live.
