"There are a lot of upsides to using your brain" lmao

Great episode w Raul. I am gonna try to use my brain a lot more about what he said about when studying a hand and seeing a mistake thinking "ok what thought process did i use that caused this mistake"

Hey guys, thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Glad that so many of you found the episode with RaulGonzalez useful. I'm putting my key takeaways on paper, so much great advice there from him. I can't wait to share my thoughts about this episode in my newsletter later this week.

Tomorrow, I'll publish an episode with Joey Ingram. I really enjoyed the conversation with him. We covered a lot of topics, had a proper discussion about what's going on in the poker industry, what are some of the trends and problems that we're seeing and what's our outlook on the future of poker. We also went into some personal stuff like how we feel about being poker players, how do we manage our time, or rather how we struggle to manage our time And much more. I'm sure many of you can relate to some of the things we discuss, so I hope you'll enjoy it.

And the podcast website has a new look now. Check it out! https://runchuks.podbean.com/

The latest episode is out now with the mindset coach Jason Su. This one opened my eyes to several ideas I haven’t considered before, and I think there will be plenty of takeaways for you there as well.

We talked about how living with presence can help guide you through the ups and downs of the game, why it is the missing piece in the field of mindset work, and what are some of the best ways for you to start feeling more centered and get “in the zone” as often as possible. Jason's advice can definitely help us build a more fulfilling career in poker and feel happier with our life. I hope you'll check it out and enjoy it.

Hi Runchuks:

I actually had some correspondence with Su when his book came out (and found him to be very nice) but my reaction was that this was the most bizarre poker mental coach book yet, and I quit reading after half of it. Stuff like

Quote:
We can reliably shut ourselves off from our body intelligence by sitting still for long periods of time. As the body moves, it becomes more receptive to taking in all the information surrounding it. Using Creative Joint Play in even small incremental movements at the poker table lets us enjoy the benefits of movement and allows us to access our full BQ as we make complex decisions.
which appears in the chapter titled "Body Intelligence" where BQ stands for body intelligence which is supposed to be something like IQ but for your body was a little too much for me. I'm really surprised to see that you did an interview with him and I hope the information that Su presented is a lot better than the half a book that I read.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hi Mason,

I haven’t read Jason’s book, so I can’t comment on it. But I see how that sentence tuned you out from what he has to say.

We had an interesting conversation with him. Jason seems like a nice guy who is passionate about the work he does. Sure, his work is not for everyone, nor should it be.

As the saying goes “wherever you go – there you are”. Mental game coaches can’t really help somebody become a better poker player, but they sure can help people become better at being a poker player. What I mean is - just because somebody learns to breathe properly or starts to meditate, doesn’t mean they’d miraculously start making better decisions in poker, but if these practices help them feel happier, maintain higher levels of energy, sleep better, or whatever it happens to be for each individual – eventually all that reflects on results in poker, but more importantly it increases the quality of their life.

Several people asked me to get Jason on the show. I’m happy I did. Due to the lockdowns, a lot of people are struggling to maintain (or attain) a happy life. I interviewed several people from the “mindset coaching” world. They all have something different to offer. For those online poker players who are looking for actionable, practical advice I’d highlight our conversation with Adam Carmichael we discussed a lot of great ideas in that one, most of them are quite easy to implement. Most of the other conversations with mindset coaches also had a lot of value. I feel that everybody has their blind spots when it comes to the topic of the mental game. And sometimes just one idea is enough to trigger a big positive change. Occasionally, all we need is a nudge.

There are a lot of coaches out there working on mindset, and I think that the podcast is a good platform to introduce people to what’s out there. I don’t have any financial interest in their businesses, so I can provide an unbiased conversation exploring the work of guys like Jason. And if as a result, Jason helps at least one guy make a positive change in his life - that’s mission accomplished for me. Plus, I’m just genuinely curious and I like to explore new ideas on my podcast.

I got several insights from the conversation with Jason. Ideas I haven’t considered before. I’ll write about those in the newsletter. I know these ideas won’t have any effect on how I play poker, but hopefully, they will have a positive effect on other areas of my life.

Adam Carmichaela aka adamc1998 is a scammer who was banned from pokerstars for botting along with team mates at the highest stake hyper turbo HU sngs. No wonder he is a “mental game expert” now. It is disappointing that reputed groups/individuals are giving this guy an income and platform to promote himself.

Runchuks seems to rate Adam. If I'm honest from all the content I have heard from him, although he seems like a nice guy it is quite a low level of mental game strategy he's releasing.

IMO Jared Tendler is an absolute genius. Next to Adam, Jared (and his material) looks like the ideas of Albert Einstein!

I am pretty happy Jason Su has started releasing material in the last year. I haven't looked into it in too much depth so intend to soon and am looking forward to it.

Getting hung up on the exact language seems odd. Lots of people swear by going for a walk when they are stuck on some sort of intellectual problem. Maybe there is a better phrase to describe this but the idea that changing your physical state and/or environment can gave you a mental breakthrough isn’t all that controversial.

That's disappointing to hear, but his episode with Runchucks was still very good. I tried to check his youtube channel after the episode but found his own videos to be not that great. I definitely got a "self help snake oil salesman" type of vibes from his own videos. I would still recommend his podcast episode with Runchucks. Even "scammers" can have some good ideas you know.

Hey guys,

I've been quite overwhelmed with the amount of work this week, so I didn't find the time to answer you all here. I'll get on it as soon as I can. Meanwhile, we just published a new episode.

This one's with Alex Livingston. He finished 3rd in the WSOP Main Event in 2019 cashing in around $4MM. He shares several crazy stories from his professional poker career spanning over a decade. As an example - he once lost $40k playing beerpong at a time when he had less than that to his name. Another one is about how he went to Amsterdam with a couple of friends for a week and ended up quitting his studies and staying in Amsterdam for 3 months. Of course, he also shares his experience of playing in the final table of the Main Event, random stories about Vegas, casinos around the world, and life as a poker player. Check it out, it was a fun conversation.

It makes sense tho. I've read stuff by science people that talk about having smart parents intellectually but they were so stupid with their bodies and just let themself essentially atrophy or self distruct into old age. Just like EQ it's a hole other realm of intelligence.

It really makes sense too when you look at IQ was originally based as a classroom aptitude test. Plenty of people with high IQs are severely mentally deficient in many ways just like most people are. Just like working on different muscle groups or working them in different ways, it only makes sense to have a well round intelligence as IQ is such a narrow realm from what I understand of it.

After all it's a classroom aptitude test at it's root and the world is no classroom.

Here's my conversation with Fedor Holz. Hard to put a title on this one, he shares so much insight on his learning process, how he achieves peak performance, how to avoid common pitfalls when working with solvers. And of course, we also talk about his upcoming HU battle Wiktor 'limitless' Malinowski
