Good news, Mike [Matusow]. Looks like the dude was a scammer who didn't really have cancer.
I suspected as such, but I couldn't say anything because I already used up my 2023 poker cancer callout quota early in the year.

Per the Las Vegas Journal:

Along with his goal of raising $12,000 on GoFundMe, Mercer received additional donations to fund his trip. He also won close to $9,000 on table games and finished seventh in a daily poker tournament for an additional $2,300.

Scammer and runs good. WOW!

At least a big chunk of the money came from Nick Vertucci, so from one scammer to another.

If this is true....just wow. How could he think he could get away with it without ever being called out.

In that article was also this gem of a sentence in reference to another cancer patient:

Cody Daniels, 28, also saw his wish of playing in the Main Event come true during Flight 1D on Thursday. He was still alive at the dinner break.

Mercer had a Twitter account and now it's deleted.

Like always in the pathetic poker community, all that will happen is some twitter outrage for a week or so and then he will move on, never facing any consequences.

Whoa whoa aint no way. That dude was on those Twit spaces for days talking about having terminal cancer and calling out that chick for faking her hospital story. Thats gnar. I do remember seeing his final post before he went home being about losing some cash game hand at Aria and the way he phrased it was odd. I think my impression was it was strange how much this menial amount of money was tilting this guy poker wise when he has this terminal disease to deal with and he just got to live his poker dream yet his takeaway is how shitty it is losing a coin flip . Paraphrasing but at the time I shrugged it off as I dunno what its like having a terminal illness who am I to say or think anything negative about this guy whatsoever. But if this is legit and he actually was faking it then a lot of things he said / did are wuaw
