RIP Pat Humphreys

Anyone who watched ESPN’s WSOP broadcasts through the years will be familiar with Pat and Mel Humphrey cheering on Phil Ivey.

Unfortunately, Pat has passed away.

The ultimate rail bird.

Rest in Peace

Ivey, Ivey, Ivey!

Re: RIP Pat Humphrey

I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but which one is Pat and which one is Mel? The names are both unisex.

Sad either way. They were memorable background characters on those old WSOP broadcasts.

I'm about 95 percent sure Pat is the husband.

Sad to hear, they were definitely a small part of the TV poker heydays. I recall they were wearing PokerRoad gear when Ivey made the November Nine a decade ago.

Oops my bad. I did Google it and found an interview in which the interviewer referred to the husband as Pat. But a different article gave me the opposite impression. So I had it backwards, after all.

Re: RIP Pat Humphrey

I believe the correct family name is Humphries.

It was nice to hear that Phil had visited them in hospital:

Re: RIP Pat Humphrey

Given that Wilbury already corrected his/her earlier post, I think we already got there.

My condolences to the Humphries family and those who know them.

Edit to add: I'll fix the name in the thread title now.

Re: RIP Pat Humphries

Did they have a connection to Ivey prior to poker? Maybe knew him when he was a kid? Why or how did they become fans of Ivey?

Re: RIP Pat Humphries

JFC...can't seem to get any agreement on that. I thought that Phil Ivey's Tweets would get it right, but I guess not.

Edit to add: Yeah, I think this confirms it - https://twitter.com/patsyhumphreys

Re: RIP Pat Humphreys

I think they and people like them contributed, albeit unwittingly, to poker being looked at as more mainstream by the general public.
Two old folks cheering on a poker player like they would their favorite college team.
RIP
